If this is true, then it is usually a rephrased version of point one. You do not lose ten years of hard work in an instant. Regression of young players at the international level is almost always a mental issue. Otherwise, the player must be very lazy and I don't think that is the case with Pujara. It is possible that Pujara has the same set of skills as before, but other teams have worked him out? In this age of computers, teams are constantly prying out opponent players with advanced tools, so you need to constantly evolve or else perish. Then it is only a matter of refining his technique. Or could he be having some relationship issues with Kohli, as both are contenders for captaincy? Now that can affect his game.

Generally we Indians are not used to seeing our bats regress (unlike Pakistan batsmen). Our bowlers regress. Irfan lost his pace and skills. Munaf lost his pace and skills. RP (though not that big a prospect) too lost his skills. Ishant lost his pace and skills (now regaining some of it back). Regression happens. Reasons can be anything. Fitness, slower reaction time, injuries, laziness, etc. Of course, its possible that Pujara could have been worked out too.

I fear he may be worked out. In coming deliveries, whether from pacers or spinners trouble him and teams are planning to bowl those to him. People wanted him to be captain, perfect example of why you should not speak too soon. But lets hope that this is just a long bad patch and he performs well in these last 4 innings since this is the last opportunity for him to prove himself for probably 2 years.

I think its just bad phase. He falls into shell, scores too slow. In his earlier times he used to have good strike rate. Kohli too had similar approach in earlier phase of test career but now he looks for scores. 60 should be least SR in tests, you cant survive by just staying out there

This is what you actually call bad patch. Still a world class player for me. I rarw him as high as Amla. And he will prove everyone that he is good. We do not have many players like Pujara in world cricket today. Give him just a little more time.

Injury on his knees changed everything is what I can see from his game. Once he comes on to the front foot, there is no shuffling whatsoever to adjust to the swing or seam. He just puts his front foot and plays it from there. The injury to his knees is what is preventing him from doing the shuffling, adjustment. He used to have that shuffling when he wasn't injured.

Secondly, I said with the exception of SRT .... whose ability has obviously been a cut above the rest. Thirdly, .... Kohli and Vijay average in the 40s in first class. Gavaskar around 50. Laxman 51 or 52. Dravid has been the best in first class with average of 55. ( leaving aside SRT ) among batters succeeding outside subcontinent . But still .... well short of 60. Sehwag and Amarnath did not have too high first class averages too.

I am about Ranji and Duleep trophy. Pretty sure he averages above 50 there . FC in general includes international tests as well which probably drags down his ave below 50.But when he was selected he was averaging above 50 IIRC
