Who should india play as their all rounder?

Its obvious that we are failing to take 20 wickets due to lack of a fifth bowling option. In the past we occasionally got by with four genuine bowlers as we had the likes of Viru, SRT, Ganguly, Yuvi who could all pitch in with overs and even take a wicket. Also most of our successes with four bolwers have been on the subcontient with the majority of overs bowled by spinners (where fatigue is less of an issue). None of our current batsmen have any part time bowling credentials....M. Vijay is the closest in the current team but still I can't imagine him taking a wicket. If you observe indian bowlers during this current series the pattern is very similar..... we break australias top order and get them 5-6 down, thereafter our bolwers fatigue, bowl poorly and the aussie tail/lower middle order fill their boots with the freebies on offer. Whereas Australia have had Shane watson who not only keeps it tight, but asks genuine questions of batsmen and even has taken some wickets. Mitchell marsh has also done a similar job. The effect is perfectly illustrated by umesh yadav's bowling as his speed and accuarcy have consitently dropped with each succesive spell. People will say that we need a 6th batsmen as our batting is inexperienced... I would ask, how many runs has your sixth batsmen scored for india? When the 6th batsmen has scored runs, does he give you more runs than an allrounder will give? I personally think that the allrounder needs to be a seamer, but still a spinner is better than nothing. We have to bite the bullet and take a chance on someone, who should it be?

Only guy that comes to mind is Rishi Dhawan. Or maybe Irfan Pathan, that is how scarce we are in this department. I think Ashwin should play as an all rounder with 4 seamers.

Either pick a solid batsman and back him for a while to help him develop consistency or else stop the pretense and just go with a bowler who can bat a bit. Ashwin and Bhuvi are 2 capable names in the squad. Outside of the current side, Pathan is not a bad choice. PK has a knack of taking top order wickets but his batting is not reliable.

Bhuvi and Ashwin are already in the team (when fit). I think we need a third all-rounder since our tail otherwise is poor, and with MSD's retirement the next keeper will probably not avg close to 40. Rishi Dhawan is a good option, and Rassool would have been another but he's having a very bad season thus far.

Rishi Dhawan should have been in the squad long back.He is ideal no 8 batsman & 5th bowler.Bhuvi is first bowler & his batting is bonus,if we brand him allrounder,he will turned into another Irfan Pathan.I think Rishi Dhawan 's batting is underrated,but he is batting in seamer friendly pitches.He was the highest wicket taker last season & he has knack of taking 5 wicket hauls.

His batting is not very attacking and therefore needs an excellent defence for his batting to be up to Standard. From what I've seen in IPL seems to have a solid technique- but u can only tell so much from t20

we dont have any, we just have bowlers who can bat a bit like ashwin, bhuvan. unlike past where sehwag or ganguly even sachin could bowl 5-8 overs per day and even pick a wicket here or there none of our current batsman can bowl well enough to even hope for a test wicket.

There is no allrounder who is ready for test cricket, apart from unfit Irfan who is test class and has as good a test bowling and batting records as Flintoff. In Irfan's absence, we have to develop one and try those mentioned in the tread.

Last season (2013?), Nayar piled on a lot of runs but he was always an FTB. Perhaps Saxena might be useful - his overall career stats are not great, but in the last 3-4 years his bowling has improved a lot. Rassool for J&K bats in the top 6 and bowls too.
