HippoSucks Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 He's definitely one of the most valuable, but I don't think you can say that he is the most valuable. In fact, I don't think there even exists a cricketer who we can say is the best right now, because it is too opinionated. Along with that, it depends on what form the batsman is. In this past year, Smith got his test average up to 52. Does that mean he's as good as de Villiers? Definitely not. So I don't think it's fair to judge someone based on statistics, or even if it is possible to rank all these cricketers of similar caliber.

putrevus Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 He is the most complete cricketer since Garfield Sobers, there is nothing he cannot do with bat. He has scored runs all over the world, his versatility has hurt him rather than helping him , his stats would have been greater otherwise.

He throws it away when it really matters and unless he rectifies that record, he won't be the best in the shorter formats. Same with Amla.

I would take Steyn over AB De Villiers every single day and twice on a Sunday such is the importance of bowlers who can take wickets regularly.

putrevus Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I don't think we have seen a cricketer like him recently in last 40 years.This guy is just super human. How is Dale Steyn more valuable than him, he is very ordinary in odis, yes he is great, but I will take ABDV over Steyn every day. It took Sanga over 15 years to finally turn into a decent odi player so how the heck he is comparable to him.
