So everything depends on Zim vs Ireland match

Cricketics Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Pakistan are yet to play against ZIM, UAE and IRELAD. That's three games where they can definitely put their run rate up. Problem for them is that all these three teams have played enough cricket to not lose them by a reallly big margin. Zim and UAE are both showing great batting strength now. They have been putting on decent scores which is what will turn out to be a problem for Pakistan since, even if they win those games, their run rate might not get up. So as things stand, India wil finish probably 1. South Africa and Windies will fight for 2nd-3rd and and Ireland-Pak most likely is the battle of 4th spot. Also let's not forget that India is yet to play Windies and Windies-South Africa is yet to happen. These two games can change the ranks in the table big time. If West Indies beat South Africa which I want, South Africa would end up facing New Zealand or Australia in the quarters, which will be fantastic :)

If Ireland win tonight (which is by no means guaranteed) and beat Zimbabwe (such a tight game and impossible to predict), Pakistans fate will be out of their hands. Let me explain. If the above scenario happens and Pak (most likely) lose to SA, they have 3 games vs UAE,Zimbabwe and Ireland. Even if they win those 3 games, if Ireland dont get a hammering vs SA and India, even a loss vs Pak could still put Ireland through due to NRR. However, if Zimbabwe beat Pakistan and Ireland (far from impossible) they can also go through. In short, Pakistan need to win their 3 games vs the "minnows" and hope Zimbabwe beat Ireland to make their path easier. Of course, if the UAE win tonight all Pak need is 3 wins to qualify, unless Ireland or Zimbabwe turn over one of India or SA, in which case the Ireland - Pakistan becomes a virtual knock out match. As long as Ireland have 2 wins by the time we play Pakistan, the final group game of the tournament will be a knock out game with the winner most likely qualifying. And people complain about the Associates ruing the wc :facepalm:

The only problem i see is the Pak vs Ire is the last group game and is in Adelaide.So it should help the spinners considerably and help Pakistan. Feck it should have been in Perth Hopefully Ireland wins the toss and NRR messes with Pakistan

zen Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 If Ind wins both its games at Perth (so it remains in the top two in the group), and "somehow" is upset by Ireland, who also win other games it is supposed to win, Ire will qualify. After the loss, Ind will then have to comeback strongly for its game against Zim to gain momentum before KOs .... And Kaanspiracy theories will be what the doctor ordered on the Padosi's media :giggle:
