Cricketics Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I dont know anything about the case, are these guys falsely accused ? If not then its there law; everyone knows how rigid these countries are when it comes to drug. If you get caught having consensual sex with a 17yr 364 days old teenager in US, you still goto jail for rape and will be a registered sex offender. You need to watch the show "Locked up Abroad" which are real live stories showing how people get stuck in jail overseas after trying to transfer drugs for for someone or because they have been threatned by a fellow tourist etc. It is funny that most such cases happend around indonesia, singapore, philipines kind of places.

I have seen a few of them, never saw any innocent locked up. Yes you might call them naive but they broke local law. Now there is no doubt caught carrying drug is punishable by death just plain lunacy.

But that is not the issue here. They don't want him to be released. They just want to reduce it to life sentence. If you want to execute someone do it right away not after 10 years. Through 10 years he has shown tremendous amount of rehabilitation. You cannot make a blanket rejection of all the deathrow people without individully analyzing it. That is why whole Australian government go to extraordinary length to save the life of these two. Changing sentencing happen all the time. Watch the movie BROKEDOWN PALACE if possible. You will have empathy towards the persons who are tricked into carrying something. Yes the it is lunacy. The argument he makes is.. those drugs will kill 20000 people so they are punished now.

If you get caught having consensual sex with a 17yr 364 days old teenager in US, you still goto jail for rape and will be a registered sex offender. They were caught 10 years back. But over the years they have gone through tremendous rehabilitation. Also changing sentencing ( Life to Death and vice versa) is a fairly common practice. This case definitely deserved that consideration. They changed how they prison worked with lot of contribution over the last 10 years. That is why Australian government have been making a passionate please to save these two. Things they have done so far 1) They offered to exchange prisoners 2) They offered to pay the full expenses of these two if their sentencing is reduced to life in prison Indonesia receives millions of dollars from Australia every year as aid. Also from France. France already warned Indonesia, Brazil recalled their ambassadors. Now Australia will take some drastic steps. Given the economy, corruption in Indonesia logical step would be to reduce the sentencing to life. One lady participated in this courier job without knowing it was stitched inside the bag. She gets death as well. This day and age killing 9 lives at the same time which has no victim is barbaric.

What's happening here?
vvvslaxman Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 +1 could someone pls briefly describe this....Are these innocents falsely charged? What's happening here? Read on Bali 9 case. There is a huge international outcry. Even movie stars like Guye pearce, Geoffrey Rush, RussellBrand are making pleas to stop these execution. It is a chilling story.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Australia should take drastic steps.Infact considering the public outcry they would be forced to do so.This Widodo guy will simply create problems for Indonesia. The Danes have also recalled their ambassador.

The Danes have also recalled their ambassador. Australia shells out millions of dollars every year for Indonesia. Even during Tsunami they helped them a lot. They didn't ask these guys to be set free. They just want them to reduce the sentence. This guy who was hailed as "Indonesian Obama" rejected every single appeal for clemency without even giving a cursory glance (64 of them). Definitely from a human rights perspective and legal perspective he has acted like a sociapath. Irony is Indonesia doesn't want their country men getting executed in foreign countries.
mishra Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Death for Drugs in a tourist based economy. How retarded the government can be? To top it, these guys were taking the drug out of Indonesia to Aussies  No wonders Aussies are pissed. :hehe: Still cant understand why death for drugs when its possible that in few decades drugs will be sold in Supermarket
Malcolm Merlyn Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 This is diplomatic suicide. You dont act this brazen when Kings/PMs/Presidents of other countries make a request.Thats just not on.

vvvslaxman Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 Executions have taken place... One convict has been reprieved... I think they are trying to use her catch the drug syndicate.. that was the last minute deal thrown by her government i think. RIP to the rest.
Raghav_12 Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 difficult to take sides..i didn't see anybody complaining about the fairness of trial.. laws were already in place.. however I would have liked if reprieve was given as they have already gone through 10 yrs of ordeal..

Death penalty for murderers, treason (even that depends), terrorism, rapists will not receive sympathy.
