Come the final league match for Ind, - Ind vs Zim - will India know who the A3, A4 are (Aus, Bangladesh or Bangladesh, Aus)? And even though some ICF-ers will say we should just win it all in league matches - can India decide who they play in QF among A3/A4 ? Will A3/A4 be known by the time of Ind vs Zim ? Finey, have you lost it? Now that India is winning you want them to lose it intentionally? Heights of Passimism. On the topic though... Group A teams must be preferring to play India instead of SA in QF.

I mean all teams are trying to avoid both India and South Africca and play against Pak or Ireland or Windies, but given choice between the two India and South Africa, they would pick South Africa, solely because South Africa seem to be a stronger unit on paper currently and with ABDV's form the way it is.

If you have a choice of facing Australia or Bangladesh in the quarterfinals, you do whatever you can to get Bangladesh. Realistically, this will never happen though. We're topping the group without losing any match.

The Cricketers having played would opt for India. It's all how opposition sees. Every opposition and every player in the team would have different views. But to break down, this is how I see:- Australia would rather play South Africa than India given their results against them in knockouts is 100%. Sri Lanka would rather play India. England would rather play India. New Zealand would rather play South Africa. I think this is how it will be. Australia, even after beating us handsomely in tri series would still rather play South Africa, regardless of their past history. Sri Lanka and England would rather play India than South Africa.

Those are all different teams in past....now everyone knows how imbalanced SA is, take out AB they are not big threat..even Morkel & Steyn are not in good form. May be depending on pitch/conditions teams may prefer certain opponents,but i really dont think any team is too bothered with whom they face,end of day every one trying to win 3 knock out matches,if not in first match you have to face them in 2nd or 3rd.

Exactly. To win the cup, you actually will have to run into the best side or the favorites or the mot competitive team eventually.

Teams are allowed to be ruthlessly strategic to get what they want like Chanakya, even if ICF can sneer its nose! In this case - a team (or any team) wants to advance as far as possible in the tournament, and the best chances of getting there. Its not about "whats pleasing to do" for people to clap hands. In World Cup 1999, Australia played slow against West Indies to help WI qualify over New Zealand to the Super 6. I did watch this game much later (not live) but somehow couldn't recollect.
