You have never been to Madurai, isn't? Its not due to weather conditions. That's for sure. Afghanistan is the most hottest place in all the places you have mentioned, so, weather plays no or very less role. Meanwhile, people living in Rajasthan live in very hot conditions. Why is it Rajputs, Meenas, gujjars look different than bhills? Because bhills have aborgine(Dravidian) genes. I don't know what manjhi said. I can't comment about it. Even if he had said dalits are real inhabitants, does he mean all the south Indians are dalits? What sort of ridiculous comment is that? If you want to examples from Haryana, Google Haryanis and see for yourself if they look anything like Dravidians? The danger with such arguments is that people would term me as a racist and lot of people get hurt when you call them Dravidians or aborigines because some of them think its insulting. This is my last post in this thread. I don't want to continue with this argument anymore. Adios.
You are incorrect. DNA studies prove pretty categorically that all Indian genetics predominantly are originating in India (DNA subclades/ haplotypes, etc mumbo jumbo), which initially split into the North and South types, before minor admixture from eastern Asia and a much, much later minor genetic influx from arabia. Contrary to popular belief, we actually have very little turkic DNA floating around our gene pools and Indians, Iranians and Europeans have the same major genetic lineage. But there is a big difference in skin tone from Afghanistan to Madurai because of latitude. Your pigmentation is a direct defense response to slight exposure and that has two components: intensity and duration of exposure. the intensity is at its maximum around equator and lowest around the poles, which correlates to the genetics of almost all of humanity. This is also the biggest component in overall long term expression of the melanin genes. A minor component is the mean sunlight hours exposed. There isn't a big difference between how much sunlight hours a guy standing in the middle of a field in Madurai gets for the whole year and Kandahar. But there is a significant difference between intentsity of exposure because Madurai is a lot closer to the equator by a few thousand kilometers.

again my question would a white family living in Madurai for several generations end up dark-skinned eventually?

Yes. Over a couple hundred years. There will be a change in complexion. Btw, Max Mueller, the man who created the Aryan Invasion theory under the patronage of Thomas Macaulay, himself discredited his own AIT in the later part of his life.

might sound dumb but serious query here: you say if north Indians lived in South for an extended period they would be as dark as south Indians. what is the reasoning behind this statement. is there some logic? youre saying white ppl living for several generations in south india would become darker by same logic? also this is totally ignores the fact that weather (by and large) is pretty similar in south and north india
Yes sir. You take northies to Chennai and keep them in huts without fans/ACs n any other technology and modern education and over generations, their avg. skin complexion would become same as Tamils. Skin tone in a area depends on heat but also humidity imo. Dry heat will have different effect from heat coupled with humidity.

Okay. But you haven't answered my question. In Rajasthan, a very hot state has different people all together. Rajputs, jatts, gujjars, meenas look completely different from bhills. Why is that? Bhills and the other caste I have mentioned are living in Rajasthan for thousands of years, yet they look completely different. How is that possible if you say it is due to sunlight? Btwn, there are studies done in South India and they have closer relationship with Aborgines you find in Australia. How do you explain that?

Chennai, April 3: A 30-year-old systems administrator hailing from a sleepy village close to Madurai in Tamil Nadu has been identified as one of the direct descendants of the first ever settlers in India, who had migrated from the African coast some 70,000 years ago. The DNA of Virumandi Andithevar, one of the 700-odd inhabitants of Jothimanickam village, matched the white chromosome marker scientifically labelled "M130", which is a gene found only among the descendants of the African migrants who had spread across the world tens of thousands of years ago. "This young man and 13 members of his nine-generation clan carried the same marker in their genes. It means that his ancestors in all probability settled in this village several generations ago," said Prof. Rm Pitchappan, who led a team of scientists tracking the "M130" DNA and ended up at Virumandi's little house. "M130 is actually present sporadically among the population along the Western Ghats and around Madurai," said Dr Pitchappan, who heads the School of Biological Sciences at Madurai Kamaraj University. His research was part of the "Genographic Project", a global initiative launched by National Geographic and a team of reputed scientists for unravelling the mystery of human migration. "The genetic studies carried out using M130 told us about the first human migration to India. We identified the marker of the first coastal migration in our Madurai samples. The search took us to Virumandi, who belongs to the Piramalai Kallar community, whose DNA matched M130, establishing him as one of the direct descendants of the first migrant from the African coast, who must have come here some 70,000 years ago," Dr Pitchappan told this newspaper. Understandably, Virumandi is on cloud nine since learning from the professor that he is among the direct descendants of India's first family. "This is God's gift to me, to be told that my roots go back to 70,000 years. They used to say that our village of 700 people had spawned from just three ancestors and I had often wondered from where and when they came. Now I have the answer — they came 70,000 years ago from Africa," Virumandi said. A graduate in science, he is now working as a systems administrator at a call centre in Trichy. The oldest man in Jothimanickam is about 90 years old and is full of stories of his robust grandparents, so is Virumandi's 60-year-old father. "Until recently, most of our activities and even marriages were confined to a radius of less than 10 km. We were such a closed clan," Virumandi told this newspaper. It took five years for the Pitchappan team of 10 scientists to establish the DNA link between Virumandi and the first migrants to the subcontinent. The studies also proved that though the migration to India took place some 70,000 years ago, the first settlement in the South happened about 10,000 years later. "More than half of the Australian aborigines carry this M130 gene. The marker is also present among some people in Philippines and the tribals of Malaysia," said Dr Pitchappan. The Genographic Project will gather all data in collaboration with indigenous and traditional people around the world. The public is invited to join the project by purchasing a Genographic Project public participation kit. The proceeds from the sales go to further field research and the Genographic Legacy Fund, which in turn supports indigenous conservation and revitalisation projects. Virumandi Andithevar is being presented before the media by the Discovery Channel in Chennai on Friday during the national launch of its serial The Story of India.

Even in current Indian side' date=' Dhoni, Jadeja, Rahane, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneswar Kumar etc. are all dark skinned. Are they not North Indians ?[/quote'] To me 90% northies are about or just about as black as any other Indian from any other part.

It's an undeniable fact that the vast majority of South Indians (Dravidians) are dark skinned. I don't know why you southies have an inferiority complex about your skin color and get offended when someone talks about it. There's nothing wrong with being dark and there's nothing special about being fair.
The offence is purely because of the stereotype... I can't remember the number of times I have been told "Arey. Tu South Indian hai? Doesn't look like it. How are you fair" Fair/dark itself is relative... Even North Indians are dark when you compare them to a white British guy.... Our media cries offence any time an Indian is called a 'black', but it is ok when one Indian calls another that.

Afrikaner dutch people have been in Africa (south Africa, Zimbabwe) for 500 years now and they are still as white as ever why? also black ppl in America have different complexion because they are mixed. theres no pure African americans with slave descent. all have some white ancestry as their slave owners used to rape and have children with the females. this is why they have lighter complexion.

What about traditional people . Indian comedy serials severly mock people who wear traditional dresses or can't speak English.Today I was having my dinner and watching peterson hill ' date=' a comedy serial on Sab . It has shown Haryanavi tau arriving in that along with his buffalo. It is just an example just watch comedy serials and you will find fun of being made of all traditional people, villagers etc.[/quote'] Agree to that too. Traditional people are easy target

That has more to do with South Africa's latitudinal position. It lies in the temperate zone, where the sunlight is more oblique then in the Tropics. Maybe that's why the Afrikaner people haven't had as drastic a change in their skin color. This could be one of the factors.
also black ppl in America have different complexion because they are mixed. theres no pure African americans with slave descent. all have some white ancestry as their slave owners used to rape and have children with the females. this is why they have lighter complexion.
It is one of the reasons. Not the only reason. Not every black slave was raped. Look at the history of India itself, locals were under the attack and rule of Arabs as well as Turko-Mongols for a good 800 years, which included mass raping of local women. What percentage of the present Indian population would you say exhibit prominent Arab or Turko-Mongol physical features? Do the Muslims of India, or even Pakistanis for that matter, resemble Arabs or Turko-Mongols? More over, humans tend to show genetic variations over multiple millennia.

There are Rajputs who are pretty dark too. Keep in mind that: a) these melanin changes takes many generations to happen (this is why you see so much blotchy red aussies and saffers- they haven't been there for that many generations, but their skin is much more exposed to sunlight than their ancestors, giving them the 'intermediate phase' of ruddy blotchy skin. b) these changes happened mostly during the early agricultural & pastoral days of humanity, i.e., till more than 5000-6000 years ago, when human societies became much more clothing oriented. Once clothes are introduced to the picture, it retards this genetic evolution significantly, since now you have an added barrier to the sun. This is why there are many many Rajputs who have a farmer's tan that looks like a south indian man ( farmer's tan = back of the beck & arms) but their faces and bodies remain much whiter. c) Rajputs have a significant admixture from the Scythians and the Hepthalites, who were Indo-Iranian peoples from central Asia, who migrated en masse to the Indian subcontinent in several waves from 100 BC to 600 AD period. These people were originally related to the ancient Indians ( i.e., 6000-7000 years ago, these central Asian indo-iranians were migrants TO central Asia from India & the Iranian plateau) which is why there is very little genetic difference between the Rajputs and say the Marathis but there is a skin tone difference. d) Bhil society has been more self reliant and self sufficient than most indian societies historically. Ie, bhils had less social stratification and much more of the 'we grow our own food & hunt our own animals, even if we are tribal chiefs or not' mentality. Rajputs did not have this, their society was far more stratified, meaning if you were a noble Rajput, the only time you went to the fields is to survey your workers (not work it everyday from 5am to 5pm) and the only time you went to hunt was for fun, not sustenance. The reason 'white = better' is a hardwired mentality amongst the Indians is not because of some pseudo-European affinity/aping of the colonialists. The 'white = better' is a fundamental mentality of almost all Eurasian societies on this planet, basically because if you are fairer, its more likely that you are not a farmer/goat-herder and thus, must be rich or important. Think about this for a second- even if you are an Afghan or a Kashmiri, if you are a farmer, you are significantly darker than the ones who have spent generations sitting inside a house and ruling or being merchants.

These changes take 1000s of years. Here is a funny one, if evolution is true then why dont we have fork, knife and spoon instead of fingers? People have been using these things for 1000 years now :cantstop:
