I can visualise it already, flays through the off side, some nice straight drives if the ball swings in. Instead we will all bat carefully and slowly like the approach against South Africa. No bad thing but I feel we are missing the X factor like they have Maxwell and Warner. I feel we need one at the top of the order. :agree: Miss Viru. Just do your thing and put price on your wicket along with bowling good line and length and not letting the aussie batsman come to the park and saunter around liek they did in 2003. COME ON INDIA.
Marut Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 It may sound odd to say this, but we can create the opportunity to win this game by playing percentage cricket upfront and not losing the game in the first hour. That means, if we are batting first, we not be reduced to 40/3 or if we are bowling first, not let the Aussies get off a 100/1 after 12 overs start on the back of a couple of dropped catches. The longer we can stay in the game, we give ourselves a puncher's chance. Having said that, Australian batsmen are more explosive, their bowlers more penetrating and their fielding markedly better than ours. It is going to take a remarkable performance from us (or) an equally remarkable collapse from their side to enable us to win this game. Hope our players don't think like this. Australia got beaten by the kiwis (the match was one sided if the Kiwis had played sensibly and not tried to chase 150 in 20 overs) and they struggled to defend 376 against the lions. Even if we lose the first hour, there is no need to give up because this Aussie team is no where close to the former Aussie teams. This Aussie team has crater sized weaknesses and if India play well (like they did against SA and Pak) and do not mentally lose it, they can win. :two_thumbs_up:

Agree with this. We gave Bangladesh too much respect. We didn't rotate the strike at all. Recovering and posting a good total like we did against Bangladesh will be tough.
Cricketics Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I also would like to see fired up Indian fielders like how we were in the Dussehra game in the ICC knockout stage in 2000 and against South Africa in 2002 champions trophy. Also in this tournament, this is probably the best fielding unit we have ever had. Jadeja and Raina lead from the front and then we have some really good fielders who are pretty good at diving and saving runs and often take good catches even though might drop few. I think having a great fielding unit will help the team. I hope they all come fired up regardless of us fielding first or second.

Australia's weakest ODI team in recent memory - the WC 2011 team - gave the strongest Indian team in recent memory - the same WC 2011 team - the toughest run for our money in that competition at our HOME conditions in the quarter finals. Australia were so weak back then that Ricky Ponting, despite a shadow of his former glory self, was still one of the best batsmen in this team. Since then, they have completed transformed their team and the results are showing. This Aussie team of 2015 is way better than the Aussie team of 2011 and this Indian team of 2015 is not as formidable as the one in 2011 AND we are playing in Australia. They simply have too many nuclear weapons that can detonate at any given time.

We are only desiring a Viru like batsman. Unless we have an explosive opener (Something what we had for the past 15 - 20 years) we are always a vulnerable side.
