Dhoni put country ahead of his personal commitments by not leaving Australia for his kid's birth or to see her. He just wanted to be with the team and not lose the huddle. I am proud of my captain Dhoni. I hope he continues as ODI Captain and hats off to HIM. This is the time he will never get back because he was serving the country in Australia. Thank You Mahender Singh Dhoni. JAI HIND.

As you put it, I think he had time to go, but I think his whole focus of not leaving the country and getting distracted is what makes thie whole thing special. It might be foolish as you said but truth be said that he did all this for the team. And that to me is just special that he thought of the team every team.
