gaurav92 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I used to respect him a lot, but sadly, I don't think he has improved on his arrogance one bit. He has in fact gone to the worse. He is too stubborn to be a captain. I would have Raina/Ashwin over him as captain anyday. The guy talks more than he should. When you get the limelight, both praise and criticism will follow suit. It is highly disgraceful that he is gonna be a future captain of a country. This kind of an attitude is certainly not what a captain should have.
Shivaji bhonsle Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 We shared the trophy . Ganguly record in the Pak series was 1-1.Dravid won the first test. Drawing in Aus isnt winning. We would have won though If he wasnt defensive in Sydney test and declared instead of batting till 3rd day. Fact: He didnt win single test series overseas as captain apart from Zimbabwe. Dravid in just 2 years won test series in England for first time in 26 years and West Indies in 30 odd years. So how exactly is Ganguly is better captain than Dravid in tests?Lets not go into ODI cricket where Dhoni achievements are far superior. Heck even Dhoni won test series in Newzealand and WI and drawn series in SA(much better than Aus 2004 bowling attack) despite being a poor captain.Yet Ganguly couldnt win a single series outside Sub continent despite having 5 ATG at the peak and he is our most successful captain? Anyone saying that is delusional. Ganguly built the team from nothing. He was the one who wanted bowlers who could bowl quick. Dravid had a team which Ganguly built. Hence, the results. We would have been stuck with players like Nayan mongia, Shib Sunday das , vankatesh Prasad, venkatapathy raju etc.. He got in the players like yuvi, bhajji, zak , sehwag, dhoni, kaif, nehra who won us plenty of matches for us. That period was the turning point in the way we played cricket. We pummeled Pakistan in Pakistan under sourav's captaincy which never happened in 70- 80 years of Indian cricket. We reached 2003 world cup finals which I thought was incredible given the way our team played outside India previously. Sourav an Virat are similar in many ways.
Shivaji bhonsle Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I don't think Ganguly was like that. Saying I am better than any of my teammates is not a captain's statement. But less see how he leads for sometime before making the judgement. Ganguly was like that. I remember ganguly once said that the reason why Dravid is in odi team is because of his wicket keeping ability. Ganguly made some ridiculous statements, but he was aggressive, passionate about his cricket.
rkt.india Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 He is ****ing right and is a fact what he said How he is right? It was one of the biggest match of his career. Even SRT was not spared of criticism in 2003 final. Doesnt matter how many 100s you score in bilateral matches against SL as that cannot be compared to scoring in a WC SF or Final. He needs to take both criticism as well as adulation positively and not show attitude that he scored so many runs and won India games so why he is criticized when he failed in WC SF. This is his for which he is in Indian team, earns millions, gets adulation, etc.
BeautifulGame Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Ganguly built the team from nothing. He was the one who wanted bowlers who could bowl quick. Dravid had a team which Ganguly built. We reached 2003 world cup finals which I thought was incredible given the way our team played outside India previously. Sourav an Virat are similar in many ways. The core of our test team Sachin Dravid Laxman Kumble and Ganguly himself obviously were well before Ganguly became captain .Only Sehwag the world class player debuted under Ganguly .Maybe Bhajji to an extent but only at home . So its nonsense he build from nothing if anything he had a team Azhar build which was on the verge of world class and still massively underachieved as Captain Ganguly never had a 145+ quicls in test cricket .We had Nehra bowling in world cup not in test cricket. Its only in the last 3-4 years we actually have real quick in Umesh and Aaron.Nothing to credit Ganguly there .He never ever built a quality test bowling attack for overseas that's why he couldn't win a single test series outside Asia in 5 years not including Zim No he didn't pummel Pakistan .We won the odi series 3-2 and his record in test series was 1-1.Dravid captained the first test Ganguly bought in some high quality ODI players Agree .But never achieved any success with them .He deserves full credit for the belief and the run in 2003 world cup. We were perennial chokers under him and he hardly won any trophy as Captain. nothing to term as successful let alone most successful Indian Captain He deserves great credit for lifting the moral of Indian credit after the fixing fiasco .And a great ODI bat and built a quality odi team that's it . He got a world class team with 4 ATG greats in Sachin VVS Kumble and Dravid and later Sehwag as well. All at their peak .No other captain in Indian history had that sort of luxury .Yet he couldn't win a single test series outside Asia in 5 years not including Zim. He had a very good ODI team yet lost almost every final .We never performed when in mattered in Odis under him . He underachieved massively as a captain in both formats .And was selfish all through his career like batting ahead of VVS . Terming him as our most successful when he hardly won anything is nothing but a joke
Number Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Azhar and Sachin had all these ATGs in their captaincy but they never clicked together under them why ? Because Ganguly and Wright finetuned a lot of things like playing Sehwag as opener, getting Laxman into middle order while previous captains were hell bent on using him as opener the role he never liked and openly said so. Fast tracking Zaheer and Harbhajan into the test team which proved vital support for Kumble and Srinath. Choking under finals was bad but to keep things in perspective a lot of them were against Australia which were vastly superior and all time greatest ODI side at that time. We were pretty good in his time in ICC tournaments. In ODIs I would have have Ganguly who got us into finals of 2000 ICC CT, won 2002 ICC CT, lost 2003 to ATG Aussie side than Dravid who minnow bashed 6-1,5-1 against weaker teams at home but had embarrassing first round exits in 2006 ICC CT at home and 2007 world cup. Dravid was a great test captain.
Bradman99 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I didn't expect these kind of comments from Kohli given his mentality is quite aggressive. India expect to win everything and rightfully so, just like us Aussies you're not happy with falling short, so I would have expected for him to expect that kind of treatment. In a position such as Kohli's you have to take the criticism with the praise. He will be criticised when he fails, but he should not complain about that, rather he should use it as motivation to improve the next time he gets himself in a position like that.
SLICKR392 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 TOI if he has really said this.. very poor from Kohli.. he is not gonna last long as a captain if he has this attitude.. Shyte arrogance that
fineleg Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Is this ToiletPaperOfIndia creating this story? or did he actually say that? If he did say it - then he is not fit to be a captain just yet. Needs to mature.

Needs to mature.he did say it. Was shown on TV too. He is saying the truth, so no issues with that. Worrying thing is that he gets so influenced or disturbed by media or fans.

adi B Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Kohli you are not bigger than the team and the game, talk less and focus on your game more!!
Austin 3:!6 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 @BeautifulGame - Did you just say Ganguly was a poor captain? You then know nothing about cricket son. There is a reason Ganguly is rated so highly as a skipper globally. Do not simply go by W/L ratio or stats, they mean nothing. You need to look into the situation and the context as well. Imran Khan has poor W/L ratio in test cricket compared to Dhoni. Will you say MSD is a better test skipper than Imran was? Stats are misleading unless you get the context. Indian cricket was under shambles after the match fixing saga in 2000. Ajay Jadeja was suppose to be the next captain but due to this fixing issue Ganguly was appointed with the task. He did not only fit the role but changed the face of Indian cricket. Indian team started competing overseas, performed well in tournament and most importantly started performing as a team. Ganguly gave chance to talents like Sehwag, Yuvi, Zaheer, Bhajji etc. It soon became Team India from Team Sachin. Even MS Dhoni was a recruit of Ganguly. Those making Steve Waugh wait for toss, promoting Sehwag to open in tests, promoting MS Dhoni to bat at no.3 in his 2nd game were all masterstrokes. A trait all great skippers must have and Ganguly was one of them. I never rate Ganguly as a great batsman though he was amazing bat in ODIs but his man management skills were freaking amazing. So yah, dont say anyone outside of ICF that Ganguly was not a great skipper. People might think you have never watched cricket outside CSK :icflove:
Pagalpanti Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I don't mind his arrogance if he keeps it from affecting his batting and team's performance.
Pagalpanti Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 but he should stop being a sissy by complaining about it. Go out there, score 4 tons in 4 test and shut the critics up like he did in Australia after England debacle. Stuff like the incident with the journalist is unwanted especially since he's a test captain now.
AmreekanDesi Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 wow just saw on zee news that he axtually spoke those words he wasnt being aggressive or making fun of others but still he shouldnt have said those words
moniker Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 he did say it. Was shown on TV too. He is saying the truth' date=' so no issues with that. Worrying thing is that he gets so influenced or disturbed by media or fans.[/quote'] How is he is saying the truth? For all his recent failings, Pujara started off so well that he still averages better than Kohli over the last 5 years. Not that it is a very big deal, but Pujara also has a couple of double hundreds suggesting he has better aptitude for playing big innings compared to Kohli. Dhoni averages 55 in ODIs to Kohli's 51 in the last 5 years. How is Kohli's comment that there isn't anybody else in the team who has done better than him true? I don't mind him boasting about how good he is and how he has won matches for the team and all that. But comparing yourself against fellow players in the team and saying that you are better than them all is pretty disturbing.

Gollum Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Honestly Ashwin has been our biggest matchwinner in tests since 2011, check out his performances in India, lost count of his MOMs and MOS'. Rahane, Pujara, Vijay have not done worse than this jerk in tests. in ODIs Dhoni was, is and will always be better than him and Sachin,Sehwag,Gambhir,Raina,Yuvraj,Zak,Munaf,Nehra,Dhawan,Rohit,Jadeja,Ashwin,Shami,Umesh have outperformed him in the big tournaments, especially WC 2011 and CT 2013 which we eventually won. How delusional is this ****** who thinks he has been our best performer for the last 5 years. Over rated prima donna who will lead Indian cricket to it's nadir in the coming years.
India-KXIP fan Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Oh Well...another PC to talk about himself... What's new? So? Anyways alot of critiscism here of Kohli. Best player in last 5 years. He should think this way, maybe not say it in public, but he is human too. Still hilarious how butthurt people get when someone really good at something is selfish, arrogant blah blah blah :hysterical: I rather him be his natural arrogant, selfish self rather than forcefully becoming what people want him to be. A humble guy who doesn't boast and make others feel bad, insecure. If a person is naturally humble then great, if he is not the personality you like then understand its not his personality that matters but his cricket. His batting has been great and anyone who thinks logically knows the WC was just a couple of ODI innings anyone can fail in. His average was 50 in WC ffs! From a captaincy point of view the team played a whole lot better under him in Aus and he seems willing to give players with talent chances. Nothing wrong with him being captain. The whole team fights hard under him.
