Is dhoni aging too fast?

He is only 33 but looking like someone who is near retirement. His strength to hit the ball has certainly been diminished in last 1 year. Hats off to him that he is still accumulating runs mostly in singles nd doubles but certainly is looking like ghost of past. I think its time that he should either promote himself in batting order or consider finding back his strength. P.s. I m biggest Dhoni fan

He is not aging fast I dont think, it is just natural decline. Hopefully no test cricket should ease his burden now. He is not the force he was but that is to be expected after so much cricket over the years. I do agree that he should bat higher up the order in ODIs, he can still score at a brisk enough rate in singles and doubles as you say. We need a better power hitter at 6 though

It is not age factor which is affecting Dhoni, its his technique, Dhoni has changed his technique somewhat to fair better in overseas conditions but this has badly affected his destructive aggresive batting. Just observe Dhoni, nowadays he just lunges forward and then tries to hit the ball, then compare this to his earlier technique on youtube videos.

Maybe he is one of those people who age rapidly. Misbah is 7 years older than him and looks much younger than him. Age has certainly caught up with him and top it off, a timid attitude is not helping him either. At-least in the IPL he should drop the cautious run accumulator strategy and just go back to his former ball bashing self.

He has played a lot over the last few years and the toll is now showing. He may be 33 but in playing terms and wear and tear he is closer to 36/37. He reminds of Rivaldo, who was still good at 29 but as soon as he hit the thirties went into visible and irreversible decline. Same thing is happening to Dhoni, his glory days are in the past.

The decline is nothing to do with Dhoni's strength but his reflexes. Dhoni's reflexes have clearly slowed down and he needs those extra few milli seconds to judge line & length. That's why he's almost always late against quicker bowlers when they bowl short against him which results in mistimed pulls or top edges. He may be 33 but he has been playing non stop for a decade now in all formats. Considering he's been the captain and wkt keeper most of his playing days it's a miracle he never faced any injuries and long layoffs. Flip side is that his career is bound to be shortened as you can't keep up with this workload. I hope BCCI takes note and considers some sort of rotation system for Team India regulars so they can have some sort of a rest/off season to recuperate and recharge their batteries.

It used to be quite common in UP, Bihar and Bengal in the 60s, 70s and 80s when families didn't make their kids start school until a couple of years late, and then had to get a certificate showing they were still eligible (young enough)
