Around 1998, I thought Sachin would finish with a career average of 60+ at a S/R of 60+ if he played till 2010. I thought he would play a lot of impactful knocks (comparable to Kolk 2001) but those knocks were rarely seen from his blade. Sachin rarely played well in a pressure situation like battling out 100+ overs in a fourth innings cause. Considerable underachievement for some one with his talent. Sachin the best prodigy the world has ever seen at the age of 16 did not fully achieve his potential inspite of his tremendous accomplishments.

I think its a myth sachin did play well under pressure.Pick out any drawn test or win sachin had meaningful contribution in it.Most of his small gems are forgotten because of his stature.Most of them turned in to draws or victory after 2005 as we had a good team .Chennai test chase against england was nothing short of outstanding.Or drawn games in nz and sa,.

+1 In test cricket he was a huge underachiever. In 90s, the toughest era for batsmen he was averaging 59. Should have ended his career with a 70+ average and minimum 70-80 test 100s. Also in spite of playing 200 tests he rarely turned up when India needed him the most. Dravid, VVS were much better clutch players than him. And his 4th innings performances will always be a big blot on his career. The most talented batsman in history, the soundest technique ever but somehow mentally he wasn't that good.

To me, the biggest disappointments of watching Indian cricket the last 25 years have been Munaf Patel and Irfan Pathan. When Munaf came on, he was fast, accurate and could even reverse swing the ball. 5 years later, he was slow, inaccurate and even more woeful in the field that what he was. Irfan Pathan was probably even more disappointing. When he yorked Adam Gilchrist with a reverse swinging fast yorker, I thought we were onto something sensational. But instead of increasing his pace, he got ridiculously slower and even lost his much feared swing.

For me the biggest disappointment has to sreesanth,R.p Singh what separated both from others was they could take wickets against non sc sides like Sa,aus,eng .Both could have been world class swing bowlers with dedication and work ethic but lost it.

This. Also Harbhajan.Iexpected him to take atleast 600+ test wickets. He still has age on his side to get there, if only he has the motivation. Also Sehwag in ODIs. When you see players like Dilshan copying his style and still succesful in ODIs and tests at age 38, whereas this guy lost it at age 34.

He didn't bowl very smart (understandable, he was a young debutant with no pace bowling leader in the attack either) but man did he bowl like a guy who oozed talent. Looked like an easy but awkward action where he launched balls regularly in the 140-145 kph zone, for entire spells, while making the ball move around like a banana. Particularly that killer inswinger. Then he got injured and suddenly, the zip was just gone.

R.p Singh did not do well in india in tests but he had ability to produce wicket taking deliveries and Left arm inswing and a good bouncer would have evolved well and if you hear him commentating looks like having brains,Don't know how he lost it.
