cric_fan Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Well the downward spiral started a very long time ago, it was when Moin Khan and Wasim Akram were captains of the side, it then continued and took full flight with Inzamam in charge and the rest have been a shambles since. Misbah restored temporarily some respect to the side, almost carrying the team single handedly with some support from others in tests. Make no mistake about it, it's been a long long time coming. Until and only until they allow a fair selection system, Pakistan won't recover. I'm surprised it's actally taken this long to drop these low levels. A lot of commentators have spoken openly about the most natural talent being in Pakistan. Have heard Nasser Hussain, Atherton, Healy and Sanjay say there is immense talent in the youth of Pakistan. But it's never allowed to climb to the top because of the unwritten laws. 1. There must always be at last 1 Akmal in the side. 2. Afridi is undroppable. 3. The revolving door of openers should only include garbage players like Taufeeq and Farhat. 4. Turn a blind eye to match fixing, after all the big fish will get a slice of it as well. 5. Do nothing about security in the country, we'll get to go on nice holidays to Dubai and elsewhere. We'll take our families along and claim expenses. Attrocious to say the least and unfortunately the fans suffer. Whilst many Indians, Bangladeshis and other fans across the world may initially be happy and laught at it, it'll soon end up like WI, where you actually feel sorry for them because you know they could and should be a proper force in the sport, instead they're minnows. I'm sure Indian fans would prefer playing (obviously they want to win as well) a decent/strong Pakistan side rather than a weak one. This. Nailed it. But certain Pak fans are in serious denial.

I don't see any talent when it comes to batting. azhar ali is decent, sohail harris with a bit of experience could become someone they could depend on, but yes overall no talent coming out from Pak. The issue is Pakis want every single of their batsman to bat like that one fateful day decades ago when mr afridi batted. If Rahul Dravid were a Paki he wouldnt have played more than 10 test or ODIs. Also unfair expectation that whomever they make captain will turn out to be an Imran in 92 wc. I mean poor fellow azhar ali wasnt even in WC squad now leading the side. Now everyone who was dropped like the akmal/shezad will be back and azhar ali will be dropped. Add no international cricket in pakistan; lack of will to improve by their administrator, return of match fixers, immature fans, absolutely no interest in using technology to improve individual or team performance, still havent picked up fielding culture, and above everything not much talent coming out. Pak cricket isnt going to improve.

Rahat is a test bowler, Gul is too old, Ajmal is a club level bowler now, Junaid is incredibly unfit, Zulfiqar Babar is too old, Hafeez only just started bowling with his new action.

Rahat is a test bowler, Gul is too old, Ajmal is a club level bowler now, Junaid is incredibly unfit, Zulfiqar Babar is too old, Hafeez only just started bowling with his new action. Insha Allah. But your problem is absolute dearth of batting talent. I am not sure if these players can make it to a county side.

(One can't fault India though for not including them at this point due to terrorism related issues) To be honest from what I've seen in the UK Pakistani teenagers are a lot more interested in cricket than Indian teenagers.

Kids in pak may also be equally interested or more interested than kids in India for that matter. But maybe to take up cricket at the professional level, they would like to have IPL participation and also international cricket returning to pak.

Though I think international cricket returning to Pakistan matters a lot more to Pakistanis than playing in the IPL. Anyway, I see Pakistani winning the test matches with ease. Our test side is a lot more balanced than our LOI sides.

Their entire LOI batting order is packed with players with **** strike rates. Its like a team packed of Rayadus and Rahanes.

Their problems go beyond lack of talent. You cannot dominate a sport in this decade without discipline and professionalism, two fundas Padosis lack. 20 years back you could get away with mercurial, street smart talents. Not anymore. Indian cricket could only progress by fixing its grassroots first. You can shuffle the pack as much as you want, but it won't matter if you don't have the right cards in your pack.

Ban on home matches also means a lot. Their youngsters do not get to see their international stars in live action at home. In the long run, this will have drastic consequences. I can see Pakistan falling to new lows in future.
