Gollum Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 I am fully with Pakistan on this one. A section of Indian media and even RSS :(( /other RW organizations have disappointed me 1. Firstly only approximately 80% of Nepali population is Hindu and hence will avoid cow meat( still possible that they have no qualms about consuming bull/buffalo/ox meat). The Buddhists, Muslims, Christians,others do consume beef and by making an issue out of this our media/Hindu organizations have denied much needed relief to a number of suffering people. 2. Nepal is a sovereign country, not some Indian buffer state. This incident should be dealt with between the 2 countries directly involved and Indians have no right to wag their tongues or put pressure on the Nepal govt. A top Nepal government official told Mail Today : “The matter has been conveyed to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and the intelligence chief. We are also starting an internal inquiry to verify the facts. If the report is correct, we will raise the matter at the diplomatic level with Pakistan. India, being our key partner, will also be informed of the developments.†Senior MP and Congress Working Committee member (Nepali Congress) Shekhar Koirala told Mail Today: "We have come to know through news reports and an internal inquiry about the beef containing food packets from Pakistan. We have identified and kept aside the cartons carrying these controversial food items. We are in deep distress and cannot afford to be dragged into any diplomatic row. But we have sounded Pakistan that they should be watchful while sending consignments." 3. The food packets clearly had 'beef masala' written on them. If Pakistanis really wanted to do mischief they needn't have specified that ensuring that the gullible Nepali Hindu baniyas there get polluted without anyone knowing . Besides I am not sure whether beef masala actually contains beef or whether it is used to flavor dishes involving beef. 4. During times of catastrophe people may go hungry for days, dying of hunger/thirst. Even if the food were beef better to survive on that than die of starvation. Even Hindu Gods will make an allowance for such a situation. I have seen documentaries where people have consumed corpses/urine in extreme cases. Beef is nothing in comparison. 5. I doubt Pakistanis did it purposely. Maybe some hater from parosi land did it to hurt the sentiments of Hindus but the chances are low. Nepal isn't actually a friendly state of India and all it's neighbors want to befriend it because of it's strategic location. India/China/Pakistan are all vying to help Nepal the maximum in these days of crisis to earn public goodwill. I doubt Pakistani govt/ISI is that stupid to jeopardize their image over such a trivial issue. Besides they also sent medical supplies, tents etc so they actually do want to help. I doubt many in Pakistan even knew until this incident that Nepal is a majority Hindu country. Slightly, very slightly insensitive... I dont think any hindu will refuse beef or any muslim will refuse pork if it is a matter of life and death. Media as usual trying to create issues out of nothing.

Malcolm Merlyn Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 The OP pushing his Green views again. 1.95% of population in Nepal is Hindu/Buddhist/local religion all of whom avoid Beef. 2.Beef is banned in Nepal.Cow slaughter is punishable by 12 years of imprisonment.Nepalis are far more fundamental about religion than Indians. 3.This is addning insult to injury.Yes they are in need but looking at their compulsion Pakistanis shouldnt be trying to score religious points. 4.Third grade attempt by Pakistani authorities,nothing better expected from them.

Even the Hindu organizations making a big deal out of it should shut up. Exceptions to dogma should be made in times of tragedy.
Asim Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I highly doubt if this product can contain actual meat since its a sort of ready to eat energy food with a long shelf life, now its ingredients where it says Alu ki bhujia, beef masala etc... (although I am not sure if beef 'masala' can contain actual beef bcz u knw Chicken masala, Fish masala, Tikka masala do contain anything but fish, chicken or tikka etc). On the other hand I can easily accept if someone says it indeed contain beef may be in some processed form but then I honestly think Pak would have simply never thought over this aspect, yes it can be considered as sensitive mistake but nothing more than that since why would they like to ruin their own relief efforts and seriously what they wudv acheived by doing this, that too with Nepali earthquake affectees... (meanwhile #GoHomeIndianMedia #dontcomebackindianmedia are top trends in Nepal...)

Nepali Buddhists or for that matter Buddhists in any part of the world consume beef. 2. Cow/Bull meat is banned in Nepal, not Buffalo meat. Buffalo is consumed even by Hindus there. Ever heard of Gadhimai festival there? Rajiv Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Keeping aside "food sentiment" - when u have nothing to eat ( like no other choice ), people have eaten human meat to survive too On a side note, if most know me from this site - I have mentioned my love for Cricket started in 96 WC India vs AUS when a fellow Pakistani student ( in Switzerland ) insulted Indian cricket but was all praises for Sachin, It was some patriotic moment that I just got into the game. Anyway, there was Karachi'ite who had some prejudice about Indians ( was son of Police Superintendent ) and frankly that was the first time I felt the ire between Indian/Pakistanis. He didn't mind eating beef with me but when I ate pork, he got up ( even though the gora he sat with was eating pork ) - this episode of Nepal reminded of that and for a moment I thought it was that Pak has played a cruel joke, but its definitely a mountain outta a molehill P.S That Pakistani committed suicide 4 years later ( word is his father might have shot him for not marrying the girl of their choice ) In addition he wasn't the only Pakistani, there was another Bollyfan who didn't care about all this

My reply is the same, you're being as clueless of the ground scenario as some of the countries sending aid. Just because someone eats chicken curry does not mean they will readily consume tuna. Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat appealed on Friday to international donors to send tents, tarpaulins and basic food supplies and said some of the items received were of no use.
