I was geared up to watch this series and the Bangladesh one because these 4 teams are almost equal to their opponents and it makes for a watchable series

Don't think Test cricket was watched ever that way. Infact in the 70s, 80s, people had to work lot harder than now balancing home and work. If at all they could only catch up on the transistor. If you miss that only option is next day match report. So there was lot more chance those days to get bored with cricket than now. It didn't happen. ATleast nowadays we discuss, analyze, play with stats, write articles do lot of stuff about cricket to be in touch.

To each his own but I do love test cricket above all else. Even a draw in a test match can be thrilling. I liked 20-20 a lot initially but then I got bored due to the repetitive nature and bowlers reduced to ball boy status.

Test matches of course bring more variety. Even objectively. The same test match may witness a close match, or a match in which one team gets a 500 and the other getting bowled for 100, one team making more runs than both innings of the opponent combined, or both teams getting mauled in both innings and so on. In a T20 match, I already know the first batting team would be making 130-160 with a high probability and even though matches are often close, there is no variety in the style of play or the runs scored. With test matches, no one can predict what the team would score - it could be a mammoth 500 score, an decent 350 score or a paltry 150 score or even a sub 100 score. The range of runs scored in a test match is so high that each game looks different from another. The manner in which the runs are scored in a test match is also quite varied - one team may get 500 in 120 overs, another in 150 or even 180. Predictability is not the characteristic of a test match - the match may swing from session to session if the teams are competitive.

Actually what I want is bowler's wickets. Sporting wicket indicates that if you're a good(to great) batsman you'll dominate an average bowler. So say Ponting against Roger Binny would be no contest. But on a swing inducing, green placid wicket he'd be handful against anyone. I'd rather see scores of 104 all out, 92 all out, 142 all out 86 all out as opposed to anything else. This allows for batsmen to graft that want to graft and batsmen to hit that want to hit. Makes test cricket appealing again if every session in crucial as opposed to what we saw in Australia in late 2014.

Agreed....but: 1) An exciting Test cricket takes atleast 3 days (upto 5 days) whereas a T20 takes about 4 hours. Meaning there is a possibility of atleast 6 T20 (upto 10 or more). 2) An exciting Test match happens once in a blue moon these days. Chances of exciting T20 don't even need moon. 3) You cannot have exciting cricket played in front of empty ground. Nobody to cheer = players almost going through their motions = boring Test matches = boring TV. T20 atleast have 50% ground filled Obviously once in a while a Test or a series comes along...when everybody start mentioning why Test cricket is so great. But this test or series should have to happen more regularly. Otherwise soon other sports will completely overtake cricket even in India.
