Both Madhya Pradesh cricket Association(Indore/Gwalior) and Vidharba cricket association(Nagpur) have been denied matches for the past few years as they opposed Don Srini. Even though the BCCI follows a rotation policy while allotting international games matches, both the VCA and MPCA suffered due to their fallouts with the previous leadership. The VCA, headquartered in Nagpur, didn't host a Test during N Srinivasan's controversial three-year regime as BCCI chief. Similarly, the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, controlled by another Srinivasan detractor Jyotiraditya Scindia, has been allotted an ODI after almost four years http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/story/880455.html
Bigg Brother Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 A read somewhere that RCB vs RR match at Ahmedabad was final match at this stadium for next three years becasue GCA is to bulit the new stadium and increase the capacity of stadium to 90000. And now a test match???

Precambrian Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 FWIW Test matches have been split pretty even across grounds if you check last 10 years data, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mohali, Nagpur, Mumbai - 5 matches Bangalore, Chennai - 4 matches Hyderabad - 3 Kanpur - 2 What's also surprising to note is that out of the total 43 matches, 30 have been conclusive results, and only 13 being draws.

It's pointless to look at a small period like three years to conclude anything.

Nagpur is Tier-2 City... A match there caters to people of MP too... However Raipur is fast catching up... I'll not deny political connection reasons also as Nagpur ticks many points including the home city of Maharashtra CM, RSS HQ, Shashank Manohar-Pawar combo etc...

IMO - There should be 3 tiers for Tests Tier 1 : Kolkata,Mumbai,Chennai,Delhi, Tier 2 : Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad Tier 3 : Mohali, Nagpur, Kanpur Split can be 50:30:20 over a period of say 5 years considering tours and weather in different parts of country in different months, ODIs already awarded,etc. Would be interesting to see ODI split ( where we need to differentiate between India matches/non-India matches as we hosted WC, Champions Trophy,Asia cup,etc ). CI does not allow download of data

A test match is a test match is a test match, honestly. 1. OK. Still, it is too many matches for a Tier-2 city in a small period ( even considering from 2008 ) 2. I remember the first "first class match" between visiting Australia vs Mumbai that was scheduled in Hyd got canceled as ground was unfit/not ready. Not sure about "Test Class" but it might be a factor. As for Hyd being "in line" , I don't see it in the current schedule. We can agree to differ. A WI Test match that gets over in 3 days is not same as a potential Epic match with Aus/SA/Eng for me.
