Pujara had his chances to cement his place and also be a contender for captain but he has failed miserably. When did Pujara fail in SC or India. He failed overseas. Rohit too.

Sometimes, it's not about selecting a better player. It's about selecting a player who fits your strategy and immediate requirement. Against Aussies or Saffas on a typical Indian wicket, I am sure that Pujara would have been preferred. But this is Bangladesh, and they have thrown us a challenge of forcing a result out of this game. They will do anything in their power to draw the match, and avoiding that is our immediate goal. Rohit can do things that make him suitable candidate for this job. We don't need a better technician, because given the surface, that won't be required. What we need is some out of the world hitting.

What we need is some out of the world hitting. you think rohit is gonna play like sehwag ? he is guy who can hit big when he gets set but even in odis unless he scores big 100 his strike rate is never high ...sure with this opening stand he might score quickly but its big misconception of people who think he is gonna set test cricket on fire on flat tracks like sehwag did or warner does now . i can assure you in long run his strike rate would be that of normal batsman around 50-55

And BTW pujara got run out in that 1st innings of that test. Until then he was batting beautifully. We bowled excellent in first innings .Our fast bowlers particularly Ishant in 2nd session day 2 and Zak on 3 day first session . If u saw the match all through the first 3 wikcet was tough to bat in first session and very good to bat after that Both Zak and Philander swung the ball of the air .Pitch was mostly good for once the new ball was seen off And yes Pujara played a very good knock in the first innings before he was ran out .Where was indenting that ? I was only referring to the 2 and innings knock .In first innings only Pujara and Vijay saw off the new ball just like in Lords .Both important knocks

His abilities will be crucial this Test. in this test with almost 300 run opening stand sure he might hit big but you do not select team on basis of that and you do not select your number 3 bats on that basis . i do think he deserves a chance just see my last post on this thread but i do not agree captain had any such logic which you suggested in his selection . i criticise technique of rohit but he is proper batsman and plays in proper way and is normally slow at start even in odis with his strike rate normally being under 80 when he reaches 50 but he can accelerate very quickly and is one of the best six hitters in the world so in t20 where he is forced to play quick he plays quick..similarly at end of odi inning ..

Problem is waiting for Rohit to prove and costing as the SA or Srl series . (Like the 100 in Mumbai vs England or the Delhi knock against Aussies ) thing is success at home is not a given for pujara as you look at those dismissals in later part of england or in australia he even played strange shots to spinners and his mind was completely gone . he needs to prove himself again in ranji ..australia was pretty flat and i honestly thought his technique will suit that but that didn ot happen as even after looking comfortable he threw it away and there is no reason it wont happen here again and understandably after being given whole of nz and england tests he was dropped in australia after failures and now he is behind like of rohit in selection who should get atleast 2-3 matches to prove himself after getting chance in australia. in no question in my mind that pujara will make comeback but i honestly do not see harm in dropping him now and picking people on performance .

No he did not pile runs against tough attacks on touch tracks and that is the main the reason he was dropped in first place.

What has Dhawan done to get a call back? Pujara would've scored on this pitch as well. This 150 is as meaningless as it can get. Disappointing stuff from Kohli. Team management need to identify players for future and not just go horses for courses.

Kohli has failed in WI and Eng and he got consistent chances, we saw him improve as a player. Not everyone succeeds overseas while on their first tour, no matter how many A-games you've played away. Pujara failed to score big but he showed he was no mug with the bat away. Rohit and Dhawan not only didn't score but struggled to defend balls. Even Kallis made Rohit look like a tail-ender. And he did score in SA the second time around, he failed in his first tour there as well. Also kept improving in his county stint. Poor stuff from team management imo.
