Yeah but I hope Kohli isn't talking about running 6 batsman and 5 specialist bowlers who can't bat much (except Ashwin). Jadeja might be able to bat decently at #7 in the subcontinent at least.

5 bowler strategy works only if one of your bowlers is an allrounder and by that I don't mean bits and pieces. Also keep in mind we don't have a keeper with proven batting credentials...Dhoni for what it's worth was a game changer in sc conditions . Also none of the 5 bowlers we have a strike bowlers...we no longer have a kumble,kapil or even zaheer. So playing with 5bowlers and weakening what your traditional strength which is batting is a recipe for disaster. Forget kapil we don't even have a prabhakar or anyone close to him in 20 years. Bhuvi might be that guy but jadeja is definitely not. Also tell me the last team to play 5 bowlers just for the heck of it. Argument can be made for ashwin but don't think his batting while pleasing to watch compared to bhuvi,jadeja or bhajji is not very consistent enough yet.

I should also add that Ashwin has played 25 test matches (or 37 innings) and averages 36 despite being not out 9 times. Whereas Rohit averages 40 (with only 2 not outs). You can't say which is the better batsman yet because the sample size is so small... Now Ashwin has played some very good innings in tough conditions (like his 91*, 8 (off 34 deliveries), 68 etc), Rohit hasn't played enough matches to have the opportunity to score such knocks. So you can't say that Rohit is incapable of it.

I don't consider Ashwin as a replacement for a proper Test bat (as of now, he is good for 30s and some clutch innings but that's it) but Rohit is just a train wreak waiting to happen. He cannot play quality swing bowling. Good length, in seam will get him out. And he will get out if there is immense pressure in Tests. He will have his grounds and attacks (like WI) where he will make merry irrespective of how good they bowl but overall, he will be underwhelming. We just have to learn the lesson the hard way by watching him fail. :((

For Kohli 6-5 combination,he should have a wicketkeeper who is a good batsman who can score consistently.Also he needs bowlers like Parvez Rasool,Shreyas Gopal,Axar Patel who can be termed as all-rounders.One more option will be to try out part time wk ie Uthappa,Kedhar,for the home series.

I'd say by playing 6+5 combination, you can get away in subcontinent conditions but not overseas. Even our main batsmen struggle in overseas conditions so it could backfire. So only play your lead bowlers, by that I don't mean the likes of Bhuvi, Ishanth who are the proven failures.

If harbajan is the 5th bowler,Ashwin+harbhajan are equal to a batsmen.One of them can go on to make a handful contribution 3 out of 5 times.But the problem is Saha.He has to click or else its like we are playing with 5 batsmen since there are very few Wk-batsmen options available.
