Fake Accent Exposed

We always suspected that Kumar "Uncle Tom" Sangakkara put on a pretentious fake accent to try to fit in and pretend he was English/American. Well now we have proof from Jayawardene:

We've all made fun of his accent. Especially when he goes overseas and speaks to people he gets that strong accent. When he's in Sri Lanka talking to us, it's not like that at all. But as soon as he goes to England, Australia or somewhere else and starts speaking to someone, that strong accent comes out. But yes he does sound rather posh speaking English, not quite Lord Gower or Strauss standards but definitely more so than Mahela, Dilshan or Mathews Reminds me of Steve McClaren. The English football manager, from Yorkshire in fact, now at Newcastle, who went to manage in Holland and suddenly started speaking in a terrible Dutch accent

I don't entirely blame him. Many of us who've lived abroad find ourselves talking in a different accent when talking to goras. It's just that they don't always understand our natural desi accents, and after some interactions we realize that they better understand a slightly modified accent.

It's similar when I go abroad, or down south. Strong Yorkshire accent just isn't understood

And at times just to show off. I can understand Sanga speaking that accent to Goras but he continues with same when speaking in Mumbai or Colombo.

Accent comes naturally n is a need to be understood, by default I speak in a American accent (not entirely so). When in India I automatically switch to an accent where it is easy to communicate

It is not only about accent but choice of words n how uframe ur senetces as no one gets restroom here n Americans don't use the word toilet, so many words, phrases, its something that has to come naturally
