Link to comment jusarrived
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Having an opinion does not make you a hater. I don't hate Dhoni and I think he was a remarkable limited over player and a very good one day captain. But I have no doubts in my mind about how I feel about his test captaincy. IMO he is the worst test captain I have ever seen. I am not even talking about the results. As an avid follower of test cricket his disrespect toward the basics of the game and his funky style of captaincy often made me cringe. Test cricket is all about doing the conventional things right over a period of time, Dhoni was exactly the opposite of that. He treated test cricket like an extended T20. His approach towards test captaincy can be summed up with the following pictures -- Idiotic, senseless and ineffective. Idiotic is when you sit and criticize every fieldplacing , every bowling change here on a cricket forum . What do you do when things dont go according to plan , especially with our bowling linup ? what if he tried with a different field position once in a while ? Heres what he explained for your second pic , Dhoni explained later . Dhoni needed two leg gullies - or a leg slip and a leg gully - but that would mean sacrificing short fine leg to meet the rule of not having more than two fielders behind square on the leg side. No fine leg meant an easy getaway sweep shot. "I wanted to have a fielder there," Dhoni said of his new position. "But according to the rules of the game you can't have three fielders there. I wanted Virat to stand slightly wide of where he was standing because anything like a snick or a faint edge on the leg side would go between him and me. So the plan was to stand behind and cover that." But who cares , I have watched cricket for 20 years I know better . Link to comment jusarrived
I think he just didnt understood one basic thing. Its 20 wickets that win you a test match. Irfan, RP, Sree- they alll were very handy in overseas condition. He dropped them all for odi specialist like PK,BK. Chose Jaddu as second spinner over likes of Ojha Mishra. Unceremoniously got rid of Gambhir Sehwag and Laxman. I get the feeling that Dravid chickened out before being dishonored by MSD. Now Sehwag was correct, But others still had couple of series left in them. Enough said. if anything the likes of Ganguly and Tendulkar played a year or two more than they should have . Their overstaying is one of the reasosns why some of our batsmen where thrown directly onto a overseas tour instead they should have been drafted in when we played no stop for 2 years at home .Cant blame them when the fans themselves care more about the their useless personal milestones than team results . Irfan, RP, Sree ? are you sure Link to comment The Realist
Difference is stark in the captaincy styles.
