Adi_91 Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Just saw a short clip on TV of Hardik Pandya bowling in Ranji Trophy.Good pace, good height, hitting the deck hard with some deliveries, getting outswing with others.Liked what I saw. That's good to know. What is his pace like?
rkt.india Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I think bhuvi has a good technique to be tried out as an allrounder.he has good technique with the bat..... Can't see him slog though. No BK is at best a bowler who can bat a bit, cant bat above 8 by any means.
express bowling Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 That's good to know. What is his pace like?Did not see speedgun readings in that clip. He looked visually quick.I think rkt.india saw him bowling 135 k to 142 k or thereabouts in a Ranji match. Adi_91 1

tweaker Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I think Hardik is more of batting allrounder. He does not work too much on his bowling. In last Syed Mustaq Ali match he batted at no 3 & scored 50+ score
maniac Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I personally prefer a batsman..... Playing an allrounder just for the sake of it is never advisable.lets look at some of the best allrounders in recent times.... Watson and kallis are good enough to play as batsmen for their side and their bowling is an incredible bonus.even the likes of hafeez beleive it or not opens at international level and before his ban was an effective 5th bowler.in the past likes of kapil, imran were frontline bowlers for their team and their batting was a bonus.same can be said for someone like pollock.so rather than fitting someone just for the sake of it I think we need to stick to our strengths and play our 4 best bowlers. adi B 1
maniac Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I want hardik to come good ( no pun intended)but the question is is he good enough to get into the side on his batting or bowling alone?allrounders should always be a bonus in test cricket where one talent is an added bonus to their specialist skills.
adi B Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Ideally you need a batting all rounder in #6 who can fill in few overs to share the workload of the premier bowlers,a bit like watson, stokes .cant Believe the selectors we can't groom one such players out of so many to occupy that spot which is open since ganguly left express bowling 1

Yeah they might have gotten a few extra games than the average batsman if they were consistently failing with the bat because of their bowling ability but at the end of the day they were in the team as batsmen.same case for pollock the bowlereven someone like sobers I don't think was picked for his bowlingtoo bad that none of our top order can bowl bar rohit who I think is a pretty good off spinner and no I won't make this about him.....if he is in the red zone than I am sure there are plenty of contenders out there who can roll their arm over.you can't play the likes of binny and jadeja just to fill that all rounder spot. I think jadeja merits his place as a bowler alone in sc but batting him at no 6 is a disaster.now as far as Pandya goes is he good enough as a bowler or as plainly as a batsman I don't know .....I was impressed with him in ipl and that makes him a good loi prospect and not a test prospect yet.test match is for specialists.....every great allrounder made it on the basis of one primary skill he was really good at.likes of afridi etc have pretty good odi or t20 performances but u don't play them in tests.jayasuriya was a brilliant loi allrounder per his stats but he played in tests primarily as a batsman who can roll his arm over and not for his bowling abilities.once again test match is for specialists and if you are awesome in one skill set and really great in the other that makes you indispensable but those kind are very rare breed. Ankit_sharma03 Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 xactly , in golden phase we had 6 top class batsman Right now our 6th batsman have failed miserably, we dnt have some like hussey or laxman waiting in wings N if u rem in the golden phase we had anil kumble who us eto bowl marathon spellsI dnt ashwin having same fitness to bowl so many overs a day N Even in our golden phase we mostly use to 1-2 matches abroad in seriesN we never had an out n out fast bowler , which we have now . To bowl them properly it imp to give them Rest also N in tht 10 over if i have to bowl dhawan , vijay, kohli b rest assured the game cud slip in those 10 over specially the kind of short range we have with batsman these days Yes we cnt go with binny jadeja, But we have to try few optionsBut it wud b unfair to nt recognize their contributions.Binny did save u a test match in eng, Jadeja 60 in lords did change the game.Binny did bowl a lot of over in sl, didnt give runs n tooks wkts Now, talking about Pandya. Well He has potential . He can score quick runs, Can bowl around 140 . So there is ability to invest in. 5 bowlers is the need of the hour n specially with flat decks all around the worldU can score 600 runs yet if dnt take 20 wkts u cnt win, n i wud prefer 20 wkts over 600 runs any day . I wud love to have specialist but we dnt have it,But we need an all rounder who can score some runs give us some over N if our 6th batsman is Avg 22 in last 14 test i doubt wat worst can a all rounder do than that
philcric Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) N if our 6th batsman is Avg 22 in last 14 test i doubt wat worst can a all rounder do than that But that 6th batsman had an IPL hat trick some 6 years ago (fyi he has 2 wkts in 16 tests @98) and won 'the' cycle agarbathi award in some nondescript ODI series against the mighty West Indies. So, obviously he deserves another 7 tests to become Bradman reincarnate. And naturally, that would be Bradman's honour. Edited January 5, 2016 by philcric Ankit_sharma03 1
maniac Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 But that 6th batsman had an IPL hat trick some 6 years ago (fyi he has 2 wkts in 16 tests @98) and won 'the' cycle agarbathi award in some nondescript ODI series against the mighty West Indies. So, obviously he deserves another 7 tests to become Bradman reincarnate. And naturally, that would be Bradman's honour. you know what happened after that disastrous series in Lanka when impatient fans wanted his head right?brief history lesson- pushed to the opening spot and voila a star was born..... The guy averages 50 since then and has been manhandling all attacks in the loi format.didnt I already mention he was in the red zone.... But based on prior evidence one last hurrah needs to be given and yes I don't think he got a consistent run in tests.... Too much chopping and changing.in tests he has been under bowled .anyways this topic is not about rohit.... All I am saying is 6 batsman theory is a must in test cricket.... 5 bowler theory works only if the 5th bowler is as good as a Watson or a kallis, otherwise 4.5 bowlers is the way to go with a capable parttimer.i think only rohit and raina qualify so far....not too sure about gurkeerats test capabilities....hope we get a good player to take the no 6 batting slot.as much as I have disdain for Dhoni, saha or ojha are not even closely in the same league which means essentially you have 5 batters whichc is a recipe for disaster.

Really???people are going gaga about a kid who scored 1000 runs in a school game against a school attack which regardless is a commendable feat and then you have a guy who scored 264..... Let me spell it out two hundred and sixty four in an international game against 2 time back to back wc finalists and reigning t20 champions and that feat is not impressive enough for you ps:he did it twice and the 2nd time or rather the first time against the reigning odi champs hitting a record breaking 16 16s in the process.you must have some high standards......you are even more picky than sanga's dad who thought his son had a mediocre career lol.I hate repeating myself but that is fine as long as it is educating someone I can repeat myself a million times.dont blame me for derailing the topic as I think I tried to articulate already why I feel the 6-1-4 combo works.i also said any competent batsman who can roll his arm over....never have I suggested rohit's name as that is a blasphemy these days no matter how much logic you bring in.so suggest alternatives of guys right now who are good batting allrounders as we have the likes of ashwin and jadeja who are decent bowling allrounders.cant play someone in tests (odis and t20s is fine) based on the assumption that he is good in all areas of the game.pick people who have topped batting charts or pick people who have enough credentials and the guy with the bonus of having abity with the ball should be considered that is my opinion. Two main things which you need as a test batsmen are1) you should know where your off-stump is..................This faculty will help you leave deliveries efficiently2) patience --- Rohit doesn't has patience which is evident from the way he has thrown his wicket away so many times.. There are other batsmen who has shown above attributes ......let them get the chance...
