Dhoni's struggle as Twenty20 batsman

Yeah not scoring a 50 is understandable as he bats lower down the order and gets to face fewer balls in a T20 match. But what about that strike rate?? A strike rate of 116.53 in T20 and that too for a batsman that bats lower down the order is really poor.

5 / 6 / 7 is a place where its easy to score 50's according to your logic..

Like i said i cannot see any 5 6 7 who scored 50 in that list.. That's pretty much says it all..

I agree its difficult to score 50's batting at 5th or 6th but why are you ignoring his poor strike rate of 116??

I am saying that Dhoni has played most of the innings above no 6.

What exactly has he done as a twenty20 batsman to deserve a place in the team?

May be supporting your statement with Facts would help...

He won the bloody First T20I WC as captain / WC / Captain

That's enough for his place in the Team LOL

and he has been captaining in WT20s since then because of that. He now has become a serial captain.

Shami update: He isn't at the ground. Could be flying back home today

I don't see anyone who bats at 5 or 6 in that list with better strike rate than him

It's obvious that the role of a lower middle order batsman is to score quickly. Here are the stats at positions 5, 6 and 7. Doesn't look any rosy either.

I don't know how the list was generated in the original post.

But here you go .. List of T20 international batsmen in order of strike rates.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/records/282920.html

There are about 70 batsmen in that list with the last batsman's SR of about 120. It is possible that Dhoni with an SR of about 116 wouldn't be even in the top 100 list of SRs.

I've checked the top 20. There are about 10 batsmen in the top 20 who bat at #5 or below. Batsmen like Perera, Sammy, Chigumbura, Afridi, Yuvraj, A Morkel, Pollard, G Bailey, J Oram, M Hussey etc.

PS: I hope the above FACTS would help.

MSD batted at #5 on 16 occasions. So he wouldn't show up on the list if you put 20 min games as a filter.

I'm really not sure what you are looking for.

Playing most matches against worst T20 teams didn't help a tall.. Not sure when Yuvi batted below MSD..  G Bailey bats at #6,#7 ok ok

Comparing one hit wonders like Oram

I am done

You asked us to show players at 5-6-7 having better strike rates than MSD. People provided stats. There are plenty of players who batted at 5-6-7 with much better SRs than MSD.

Nobody said Yuvi batted below MSD.

Why is Oram a one hit wonder ?

For a lower order batsman its criminal to have a strike rate around 120 in T20s. He's just an overhyped batsman who is still in the team because of past glories. I hate those kind of players who are blocking potential young players who could've developed into a decent bats had they given chance by now. WTF is wrong with out selectors?

He needs longer to settle in now in Ltd Overs cricket than before, that is understandable he is 33. Once he does settle in, I still think he can score at run a ball at least. i think his place in ODIs is at no 5 or maybe even at 4 but I agree he should not be in the T20 team anymore, perhaps Ojha or Sanju will be good alternatives. even Saha has made some good runs in T20 lately. With MSDs powers on the wane and Raina struggling for form a bit We lack the serious lower order hitter that other teams have, we need to try the options that domestic cricket offer
