The right time for Shreyas Iyer to enter the Indian Team

When you see him play for the first time, you could tell Iyer had lots of potential. Draft this kid into the Indian team already will you?  He'll learn a lot more and mature as batsman.  The selectors probably want him to play domestic for a couple of seasons before blooding him but he could still have been drafted into the t20/odi setup and still play domestic first class.  One player to watch out for sure

Think after world t20, selectors will try out new faces for the world cup in England... Will be a good idea to have A-tours to England & Newzealand and gauge from them. Most probably Dhoni/Raina/Yuvraj will anyway retire/discarded after world-t20

Doubt he will play in England as a finisher.. anyway Shreyas is yet to play in any India-A games. Hopefully he is selected for all A tours and exposed to all sorts of conditions

Really surprised to see raina is only 29.

I hope selectors are waiting for Iyer to complete 2 first class sessions before drafting into indian team. Otherwise he should already have been into odi and t20 teams.

Eventhough he has played some big knocks in first class, he has this problem of throwing it away with a loose shot after getting 30-40.

His contribution is limited in high profile domestic tourney's like recently concluded deodhar trophy ..... he should strat converting those 30 / 40''s to centuries....

Also he had bad india A games

Needs to figure out his game

He has just turned 21.  The huge talent is there.  He needs a little more time to mature for tests and ODis.  I think he is fit for T20s even now.

Needs to convert more 50s to 100s. Too often bashes it quickly and then gets out.

I would like that too but he has 5 hundreds from 23 FC matches....which is quite acceptable, especially for a young guy whose conversion rates are often on the lower side and pick-up when they mature.

True. But remember that Jinx and Chepu had far better conversion rates at around the same age - now, I'm not saying they're better or anything, but I certainly do want to see Iyer score bigger knocks. In fact, he seems to get starts very regularly (gets out cheaply rarely) but doesn't score those big (or even small) 100s.

He does in Ranji trophy.

5 hundreds with a highest of 200.

His playing style is different from Pujara and Rahane...He is a very high SR and high average player in the Sehwag and Warner mould, even in 4 or 5 day games. I would love to have such a player in our test team eventually.  They put a lot of pressure on the opposition when they play good knocks.

Iyer averages 56 and has a SR of 82 in FC.

Yes, he should already be playing instead of Nohit. In SC, we can get away with 4 bowlers, and Iyer should play instead of Nohit.

Iyer's stroke-play was impressive

Scoring the only hundred of the final match ( a low scoring game )  was commendable too.

But.......the way he handled the bouncers from Unadkat...bowled at 130 k to 135 k...is a cause of worry. He needs to work on this aspect.
