Dhoni cool mask has come off for few years now.I mean he made such a fool of himself asking Australian journo those questions. Idiot has the audacity to say did u look at my running first score at a better strike rate that's your job   .

Dhoni has a higher strike rate than any Indian batsman in 2016. What more do you want?

He was anticipating this question from an Indian journo and was prepared to give an aggressive reply like he did after the BD match. Because it came from an Australian he had to be passive aggressive instead. Dhoni has a huge ego. He hid it under his cool demeanor for years but in the last couple of years it has started to come out in the open.

How do you know he would be more aggressive with an Indian journalist? This is baseless speculation.

I commend Dhoni for working on his fitness. He used to look old and tired couple of years ago. Now he is actually looking fitter and younger and it has also helped his game. He is never going to be a power hitter like he once was but he can still be a valuable asset in limited overs. But it's time he handed over the captaincy to a fresh guy with a lot of passion. We are doing alright in test cricket after him, we will be alright in LOIs too.

It is a very different case in LOIs. Bowlers aim to get wickets in tests, while just restricting the run rate is enough in LOIs. 185/8 is better 180/2 in LOIs, but not in tests. Dhoni is the best captain ever for keeping the opposition to a low score with a weak bowling attack. We will be far from alright without Dhoni's captaincy.

Not baseless. He himself said how he would have answered that, in a condescending manner.

Dhoni just said he would ask the journalist if some relative of his is good enough to replace Dhoni. That is hardly condescending and should be taken lightly.

I do believe that it is unfair to ask Dhoni if he was going to retire. He is only 34 and cricketers these days play pretty well till late 30s. Dhoni has shown that he is ready to put in the hard yards and be physically fit. He is still probably one of the two fittest guys in the team and there is no reason why he can't continue as a player till 2019 WC. However the question about his captaincy is quite fair IMO. It has become stale and the Indian team could definitely use some fresh ideas.

I am afraid I don't share such high opinion about Dhoni's captaincy. He used to be a very good limited overs captain and he certainly had his moments. But now India need a fresh captain IMO.

Questions should be well thought out. Standard of journalism is not always high and some of them just troll

Tomorrow, they could ask Kohli the same. Why should cricketers be asked such non-job related questions?

Note that Nehra is older than Dhoni and no one is even asking Nehra that question so there is no need to bombard Dhoni with such questions. Zak is still playing in IPL

I am not saying that the journalism isnt substandard. However, as a captain, he should be able to answer a question in a credible manner without resorting to theatrics. And asking about retirement is not a non cricketing question.

Sometime ago I remember he was asked about team spirit and the next day he brought the whole team to a press conference and made them stand in a line and said - see we are so united. And then walked away. That is not acceptable behavior for the captain of an international team.

There is nothing Dhoni could have done today. Regarding bowling changes, the dew as expected screwed him. He needed at least 220 to 230 to play with. He didn't get enough runs to defend and bowlers did well to take match into last over.

Dhoni could have hit a few boundaries with the bat when he promoted himself.

He promoted himself to run cheeky singles and doubles and help Kohli to do the same. He's pretty fit to run like that so that he can tell off the journalists how he runs...it's another matter that age is catching up and he does gets cramps running like that...but he can only hit sixes in the last over, actually last ball if he's winning...

Let's stick to cricket. Some folks may find Ganguly waving his T-Shirt after Natwest Final as not acceptable behavior while other may see it as a passionate display .... Here Dhoni is answering questions in his own way which is fine  .... At least he is not talking about Kashmir, Religion, etc. which have nothing to do with cricket

Asking about retirement to a player is more of a personal question. Dhoni may want to play for 5 more years. Whether he gets picked 2 years from now to play international cricket is a different issue. He may want to just play in the IPL

As a player he is still good enough to play as he asked if there is a better WK batsman. On the other hand, his captaincy has question marks so more relevant question would have been if he is planning to abdicate :winky:

@Viper Dhoni's biggest strength and his weakness is his street smart way of captaining. That won him the 2007 T20 match. That arguably won him the 2011 WC. It allows him to pull miracles out of thin air at the last moment like in the Bangla match. He can utilize average resources and bring out the best out of them. He needs people who follow plans, if Dhoni wants them to bowl short or outside off, they need to bowl 6 balls there. And he hates players, particularly bowlers who use their own minds as he has a plan of his own in his mind. He can pull rabbits out of hats

However, the cricket world has moved on. If you see teams which are succeeding, in all format, they plan long term and not for one match or one situation. Dhoni's method will never give a great team or great bowlers. There is no long term strategy for developing players or even winning matches. Greatest teams of all time never relied on pulling last moment miracles but winning consistently match after match. Despite years on top Dhoni has zero contribution towards this end. He would rather have someone like Pandya who will win him this over and this match than look at developing a bowler with genuine skills. His favorites like Jadeja are not all time great talents but players who can give their all when he asks

To me Kohli looks like someone who will look at long term progress which includes grooming genuine bowlers. He does have age on his side. A good team does not concern about winning when opposition needs 3 from 3. A good team makes sure they are never in that situation in the first place. You are most probably right, Kohli will never be as good under pressure as Dhoni. But he might make sure those pressure situations happen less and less in the first place. His test results definitely show his thinking process and emphasis on fast bowling. No LOI team in the world depends on last moment heists like India does under Dhoni. Taking the match till the last over and depending on opposition making mistakes is very defensive and very Dhoni. Kohli is the complete opposite.

India won the 2007 WT20 because they played fearless cricket. Now they are too methodical and timid. That does not really work in T20. Without Kohli's individual brilliance and BD's monumental choke India could have lost all the matches in this tournament.
