Who is the best all-format batsman (Test, ODI, T20) in the World today? [2016-17 Edition]

In Australia, last test series last time, only pitch that had decent pace and bounce was Gabba and Kohli failed miserably.

T20s : VK and Finch(only 2016)

Kohli scored 119 and 96  in a test match on a very lively Wanderers pitch against Steyn, Morkel and Philander.

 

He scored 75 and 44  in a test match in Perth on a very lively pitch on his first tour to Australia.

 

The Melbourne test on his second tour , where he scored 169 and 54,  had decent pace and bounce too. ( albeit not as vicious as the first 2 tests I mentioned )

I think it has also to do with poor fielding and useless reviews absolutely pathetic, though taking nothing away from Smith.

Smith seems to be in league of ATG already. Overall average of 60, away average of 55+ and performance in all types of conditions.

Close to being a great in ODI's as well,top scorer in WC QF,SF and a 50 in final.Champion stuff.Champions trophy win might confirm the status.if Aus wins.

Smith is an ATG all right. Averaging 60 seems surreal and he has scored all over the world

 

.....but this innings has 4 dropped catches and a plumb LBW not got due to no reviews left.

 

Can't rate this innings highly

One thing common about most of the modern ATG is that they had very high averages at peak - SRT was averaging 57 most of the time, Sanga 58, Ponting 59, Dravid 59 while tier 2 batsmen were arround 47-52 mark (MoYo, VVS etc). 

 

Smith is only one repeating that.

Even with all those lucky scenario, this is a top inning.  India were bowled out for 105 here, so nothing matters in case of Smith.

 

He survived 95 balls in first inning. Basically he has proved that he is good in such conditons too.

Seriously missing Dravid here in the slips. People always remember Dravid for his batting and his solid approach batting to any bowler, but he was also a superb slip fielder.

Our batting did not to justice to this pitch. Our first innings score was an aberration.

 

There is a difference between " he is good in there conditions"  and " this is a great innings ".

With the introduction of T20s and the resulting higher risk game by batters in test matches even.....we are perhaps going to see less number of batsmen with 57+ averages at their peaks, even if they are the really good ones.
