Thanks for quoting this article as this is from 1999 WC not 2003 . I myself read this and clearly remember Srinath bowled 149.6 fastest ball  at that time His average speed in 1999 is mentioned at 86mph which 138 kmph while Mcgrath who is now considered as line length bowler was just 2mph slower in average speed.

Average speed of 86 mph or 138.4 k is very good really, especially for a bowler who was at his quickest between 1991 and 1997 and had lost a lot of pace due a shoulder injury in 1997.  This was in 1999.

( To put things in perspective, Mitchell Johnson was averaging just  142 k or 143 k when he was bowling at his quickest in that Ashes series with a fastest of around 152 k.  )

This is from 99, since you mentioned that he couldnt event bowl in excess of 140 in 2000.  Perhaps you are ignorant of the fact that Srinath had cut down his pace after surgery in 97!

In 2003WC, he was clocked at 14.3 as his fastest delivery!

Srinath touched 149 k + in atleast  two series after his shoulder injury and loss of pace.  Just imagine what speeds he must have touched before the injury.

Akram in his peak was definately above 140k bowler in limited over cricket

37 year old Akram  taking wickets against Namibia  and all his bowls are over 135ks.If he was capable of bowling at this pace at the age of 37 then definately he was quicker in his peak.

Also please remember the fact that Pakistani cricketers hide their age, so his real age could have been 39 or 40

I also find it pretty funny, you scorning off Srinath coz his avg speed was 86mph ( which is sharp for an average speed ). In the same breath, you were exhilarated at the fact Wasim was bowling above 135k +.. lolz! When Wasim bowls 135, it means he would have been fast, when Srinath bowls 138, he is medium fast? You got some awesome logic:)

Btw, just to make things a little easier for you, Wasim was clocked at a fastest of 145k's. Never above that. NEVER! PERIOD!  When Waqar was clocking 150 in matches where speed guns were used, in their younger days, Wasim was still way below 145 in the same matches! I wonder why :)

Did I ever said that Srinath was medium fast. Why you people are putting word in my mouth. He was definately above 140k bowler. But you guys are claiming that he hit 157 which is very rare pace this I doubt. but may be in one of his spell he touched that. Also my point was  Mcgrath was close to Srinath then how come most people have put Mcgrath into category of line length bowler?

As far Akram was concerned I said that his listed age at that time was close to 37 but Pakistani cricketers hide their age so he must 39-41.If at that age his pace was above 135ks then in his peak he could have faster

First off.... In that 1999 match. Srinath had a fastest of 149.7 k and average of 138.4 k.       McGrath had a fastest of 141.6 k and average of 135.1  k.   These are not similar speeds by any means.

Secondly....Srinath had lost a lot of pace in 1999 , after his shoulder injury and operation.  McGrath was at his quickest in 1999.

No point debating with a person who had made a assumption and decided and made up his mind. Some pakistani folk just cant digest Srinath being a fast bowler, but thats the truth.

Haha I did not mention Srinath's name in first post , all my question was if Akram was bowling at 135-139 at the age of 37 or more in 2003 then how come he was under 140k bowler at his peak.It is you people that are obsessed with Srinath's speed and bought his name .And suddenly when I disagree with with your claims then I am Pakistani

During the last 3 seasons of his international career, Akram bowled 128  k to 138 k most of the times. Even Pakistani commentators used to point out the huge difference in pace between Old Akram and Shoaib.

During his peak years Akram must have bowled some 135 k to 145 k spells and some 130 k to 140  k spells, which is pretty standard pace for international seamers.

Also Srinath used to bowl short of a length mostly which shaves off some K's on the speed guns.

In the 1996 South African Tour I remember in the 3rd test where we had a shot at a historic win, Cullinan and Kluesner had said that Srinath's bowling was super scary and one of the fastest spells they have ever played.

^Srinath started bowling full only towards the end of his career....at the beginning he was always short of a length, that might explain why he was clocking still higher speeds towards the end...on a Bouncy pitch,Srinath was lethal when he got it right.

Speeds that are shown on TV are measured at the point of  release.

Yes...1996 was Srinath's fastest year.

Its not just about the speedgun numbers.  Its about where the batsman has to play it at.  Getting it in the right area even a bit slower will hustle and hurry the batsman.  That's what the great ones do. Akram may not have been faster than Srinath, but he was quick enough and hit those danger zones often enough to make batsmen fear him way more than Srinath.

The thing about Akram was his skill...Yes he could crank it up but he was by no means an express bowler......I recently watched highlights of an old game on youtube from 1999-2000 Ind-Pak-Australia tri series.......Sachin was in red hot form in that tour and first over Wasim castles him with a perfect slower ball not an inswinging yorker or a pacy full pitched delivery but a slower ball out of no where...Sachin couldn't pick it and was least expecting it......That is totally on cricketing accumen.

What speeds Akram could consistently bowl can never be determined but at his fastest was 140K max and in his younger days 145...but to get the swing and variations he would be 130-140 depending on the conditions.

Srinath was not a swing bowler,he would constantly crank it up and in terms of consistency was faster than Akram.....He was constantly between 135-145 throughout his career.

Speed wise Srinath all the way.

Akram was Diagnosed with Diabtetes at the age of 31. It must had lot of impact on his body

I remember a certain period in the 90s when India were playing Sri Lanka for seemingly forever all the time and Srinath was out with an injury. In that period Jayasuria was such a nightmare where he hit 340*, 199 and a bunch of other good scores in a series. We could not get him before he safely put the game out of reach, especially in the ODIs. Then, back comes Srinath and I remember a certain test series in India and we wanted him to come back and bowl fast, bowl short and bowl aggressive. Take out Jayasuria. He does just that in both innings. The next test he goes on to hit their wicket keeper(De Silva) in the grill and takes him out too, oh boy I loved him that day!
