India is set to discuss usage of the DRS with the ICC ahead of their Test series against England

India could be set to relax their long-standing opposition to the Decision Review System (DRS) in their upcoming home Test series against England.

According to English newspaper The Daily Mail, International Cricket Council general manager Geoff Allardice will travel to India this week along with a representative from ball-tracking technology company Hawk Eye in an attempt to persuade the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to adopt the DRS.

India are the only Test-playing nation who opt not to use the DRS for international matches, with the BCCI having often questioned the accuracy of the technology underpinning it.

While former India captain MS Dhoni shared his board’s scepticism of the DRS, current skipper Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble are reportedly more open to it.

Kohli recently suggested the use of the DRS in matches involving India is likely at some stage in his tenure.

"We will certainly look to probably introduce it (the DRS) in the future," the 27-year-old said last month.

"These are the things we have discussed. These are things we have had meetings on. Because there were some areas that we felt can be debated. Especially ball-tracking and Hawk Eye.

“But, all in all … I personally feel these things can be discussed and debated on.”

The ICC recently made an amendment to the ‘umpire’s call’ ruling of the DRS, with Australia’s recently-concluded Qantas Tour of South Africa the first international series to be subject to the new regulation.

The previous protocols for overturning an "umpire's call" verdict on an lbw decision required the ball-tracking software to rule that more than half of the ball would hit a zone that was between the middle of the off and leg stumps and below the bottom of the bails.

The change saw that zone increased to the outside of the off and leg stumps, but still below the bottom of the bails.

England begin their five-Test tour of India on November 9 in Rajkot following their upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh.

If at all, Kohli plays some part in eventually bringing DRS for India matches, then that's a great advance he'd be doing to Indian cricket vis-a-vis a mule-like BCCI system and the previous mule like Dhoni, SRT (and even Kumble was mule-like on it earlier).

ICC should make it mandatory for all teams to accept DRS. The BCCI stand based solely on cricketers' views and without any scientific analysis defies logic.

Would be great if they include LBWs as well, except maybe for ball-tracking. That will cover reviews of inside egdes, where the ball pitches and where the impact is.

Lets see what level of DRS we have.If any that is.

But i have serious issues bringing DRS for an ENG series. They seem to be always getting the benefit of DRS.

Its a system designed to be fair to both teams. If England have used their reviews more judiciously then good for them.

I dont trust the Hawk Eye. Its a system that has been pushed by ECB and they even tried underhand tactics to get it approved.

this is where i have a problem. I want to watch cricket not DRS usage skill on display.

I dont give a rats arse if any team has ability to use DRS better, if they play better cricket theiy should win and only then.

If DRS is available it should be available for all decisions, have every contestable decision reviewed. No 3 DRS reviews limit.

yup its like drawing a favorable trajectory for the ball and calling it out.

that is the biggest problem for me with DRS. It is a lottery. The team that uses it the best tactically will have advantage because of limited reviews available. If you lose your reviews, it doesnt matter how much a howler you get, you cannot reverse it.

Even tennis uses the same concept and majority of tennis players are happy with it. DRS is supposed to get rid of howlers, not marginal decisions at least for now. You only review when you are 70-80% convinced that you got the wrong decision. It is better than getting dismissed for an umpiring blunder.

Now you cannot overturn any blunder. At least with DRS you have a chance even if its only 2 per innings

All you need to use DRS properly is just basic common sense. It's not as if England has acquired a specific set of skills to use DRS and have undergone speciality training.

If you use DRS just for the howlers and not for marginal decisions, you are never going to run out of your quota. Simple.

It's embarrassing to say India have no DRS skills. That's akin to saying Indians fail at simple logical reasoning and take rash decisions in the heat of the moment. Now to think of it, if we can't think objectively we don't deserve to enjoy the benefits of DRS. Here's to another 10 years of Rahane getting the wrong end of the stick from the umpires.

Correct. DRS encourages Captains to review tactically, not to correct blunders as originally intended. It's a lottery.

The tactical aspect is to realize which is a marginal decision and which is a blunder. And cricketers who play international cricket should know the difference. However in the sub continent it becomes about the ego of the batsman or bowler who wants to review.

How is it like a lottery? This is like saying when the white ball was introduced, bowlers claimed it was like a lottery because it doesn't reverse as much. You have to move with the times and pick up things.
