ShebbySB Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 If you have to pick a full strength ODI squad of 15 right now with everyone fit specially with Champions trophy coming next year in England what will be your pick? This is mine- First XI:- Rohit Rahul Kohli Rahane Pandey Dhoni Jadeja Hardik Ashwin Shami Bumrah Reserves:- Dhawan,Kedar,Akshar,BK. I've picked Akshar over Mishra,Jayant and Kuldeep for his allround skills in bowling, batting and fielding. Umesh and Nathu can come in if any injury occurs to the seamers already picked. tweaker, Rasgulla and maniac 3

Bleed-Blue Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Good team but lacks extra bowling option however with modern day pitches i dont think it matters to much... tweaker 1
ShebbySB Posted October 15, 2016 Author Posted October 15, 2016 (edited) If extra bowling option is needed then BK will come in for Hardik. But I want to give him a go in the ODI setup as he is the best available talent we have ri8 nw.As a pace bowler he has decent pace,a terrific fielder and an explosive batsman when on song. Sandeep99 Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 This one's better keeping CT in mind - Rohit Dhawan Kohli Rahul Pandey Dhoni (C) (K) Jadeja Ashwin Bhuvi Shami Bumrah sandeep 1
Tibarn Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 I don't think we have a set first XI. We have 2 ODI series before the CT2017, so team management needs to make some decisions and then give the players a consistent run. I think MS favors playing 2 spinners always, so Ashwin/Jadeja are set. Kohli, Shami, Rohit, Dhawan, and Bumrah should also be auto-selects. 1. Dhawan 2. Rohit 3. Kohli 4. Rahul/Pandey/Dhoni 5. Dhoni/Rahul/Raina 6. Rahul/Dhoni/Raina 7. Pandya/Bhuvi 8. Jadeja 9. Ashwin 10.Shami 11.Bumrah We need to select 4,5,and 6,. MS, of course, is an auto-select, the question is where does he want to bat. Depending on where he decides, we can make a decision on the other two batsmen. Bhuvi would be the best bet as an opening bowler, particularly since the CT is in England. Playing him would make our batting weak, however. Pandya would make our bowling slightly weaker, as I am unsure if he can bowl a full quota of 10 overs, but he is a potential finisher with the bat and is a great fielder. tweaker 1
tweaker Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 15 man squad as per Dhoni Dhawan Rohit Kohli Rahane Pandey Dhoni Raina Jadeja Ashwin Axar Shami Bhuvi Bumrah Rahul Mohit
Sooda Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 (edited) Rahane, Rohit, Kohli, Dhoni, Lokesh, Hardik, Ashwin, Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar, Shami, Bumrah Dhawal, Axar, Shikar, Manish ^If Rahane plays ODIs it has to be as opener, he does not have teha bility to accelerate in the middle to late overs. Lokesh in the middle order is not his natural position, but I think he has the quality and ability to make it work based on the WI T20's- certainly more experience to offer than Manish. Hardik at 6 seems a bit high too, but it gives the team a 6th bowler option-the part timers in the team are terrible. Cannot se past Shami, Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar as first choice seamers, and two spinners likewise. Edited October 15, 2016 by Sooda

I've picked Akshar over Mishra,Jayant and Kuldeep for his allround skills in bowling, batting and fielding. Umesh and Nathu can come in if any injury occurs to the seamers already picked. I think there a re few issues with that XI: Dhoni is too low at 6, he does not have the same ability as a finisher - he can still play a vital role as middle order accumulator and so should be at 4 or 5. There is no 5th or 6th bowler in the team. Hardik is not a good enough bowler to bowl 10 overs and the part timers will struggle. Rahane and Rahul should swap positions. Nathu singh has barely played LIST A cricket and Dhawal and Mohit should be ahead of him in the pecking order.Umesh is not a good enough LOI bowler
MK55 Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 I'd prefer Rahul to Dhawan and if that means dropping him then so be it. Dhawan's inconsistent and has got too many weaknesses in his game as an opener. Raina has got a perennial problem against the short ball and has become embarrassing to watch him struggle against the quicks. So Raina should't be in the squad. We've got some spin bowling 'all-rounders' but need someone bowling fast-medium as a lower order hitter. Pandya's the only one in that category and so should be given more chances, hoping that he'd continue to improve his game. Axar's a darter and is a good bowling replacement for Jadeja. However, Axar has failed miserably with the bat at the international level, even worse that Jadeja. Shami and Bumrah have consolidated their positions in the side. However, Bumrah isn't as effective in his opening spell as he is at the death. We still have got time and I'd rather give opportunities to players like Nathu/Rajpoot to see how they perform. They have got the ingredients to perform at the international level. Sran has been disappointing to me and it feels that the only thing he has got going for him is the fact that he's left handed.

Keeping in mind CT is in England we need some solidity at the middle so Rahane is there at 4.I agree with you that Dhoni has lost a fair bit as a finisher and should bat at 5.Manish can be a good finisher so Rahul,Rohit,Kohli,Rahane,Dhoni,Manish is my top 6.We can experiment with Hardik at 7 and his bowling credentials in this series.I will not jump the gun unless we don't see him bowl in an ODI.I hope he is good enough to be our 5th bowler which provised us some extra batting and lower order hitting which is so imp nowadays.I have not picked Nathu and Umesh in the squad of 15.They can come in if someone is injured.Bumrah,Shami and BK are clearly the front-runners as LOI seamers for India. Dhawan is clearly one of the 10 best ODI players in the world, and his performance has certainly been better than Root/Williamson/Smith, who everybody hypes up based on their Test exploits. Let's not blindly go after one of our best ODI players based on their performance in other formats. Also, I'm as big a fan of Rahul as much as the next guy, but why should we drop one of the best players in the world for a chance that Rahul would be as good as the player we drop? What makes everyone so sure Rahul is going to succeed as an opener in England. Even in tests, he has shown a knack for irresponsible batting by getting carried away. It's not like Dhawan is keeping Kohli out of the batting order. Rahul should play at either 4,5, or 6 where his superior 6-hitting ability would provide a punch to our lower/lower middle order, where we actually have a weakness. Mosher and sandeep 2

The question will be between playing the extra batsman in Rahul/Pandey or the extra bowling option in Hardik. I'd also groom Sran as an option so that the attack has variety. If he can increase his pace to between 135-145 and stay fit, he'll be a very useful player. ShebbySB Posted October 16, 2016 Author Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) Rohit is a gun player in ODIs and T20s no argue on that.Dhawan will partner him when he's fit but I will certainly back Rahul over Rahane as the 3rd opener in a spot opens up.Rahul>Rahane in ODIs.They will fight for the spots in the middle order with Pandey and Kedar. If rahane has to play better play him as an opener or at no.4 not below that but Pandey has taken that spot at 4.MSD is batting at 5 so only option is at 6 where it will be a battle b/w Rahul and Kedar. Unfortunately no place for Rahane in the XI when everyone is fit and we pick the best XI.He'll be in the squad though. Edited October 16, 2016 by ShebbySB
