Nehra has won us many such games defending low scores in last few overs. He was a pretty good ODI bowler for us. Raina did well in that game and so did munaf...yes it was a clutch performance but as I said nehra has not done as well as his reputation suggests

No...look at his stats...as @BeautifulGame mentioned nehra has performed well in some important games... the fact that he was in the team for more than 3 decades 90s to now and his name value, you would feel like he has a bucket loads of wickets. he has lesser wickets than Pathan, prabhakar and prasad in odis ..now obviously we know that fitness made him quit test cricket and hence his poor test stats can be overlooked but the fact is he hasn't done as much as we think he did in odis as well. express bowling Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 (edited) Among Indian seamers in the above list Pacers who had ( good skills + sufficient pace + good bouncers used regularly ) are Srinath, Zaheer, Kapil ( 1978 to 1985 ) , Shami, Munaf ( first 2 years ), And....these have been our best pacers in our history barring Munaf It would be nice if we get more such pacers. Trying Nathu Singh, Shardul Thakur and Aniket Chaudhuri may give us one more such seamer if not more. Some other new pacers having similar qualities may be tried too. If we look at stats from all the top Indian pacers, and count all their impressive performances, I don't think you will find that many great performance of other pacers either the way they look on stat sheet. Some times 2-40 is also good bowling performance but it doesn't get noted much since wickets columns would show just two wickets. The point is, for me Agarkar was the best bowler among all, and Zaheer Khan the best among recent ones, but Nehra played great part in helping us win plenty of games and to me, he isn't given as much credit. In fact, more people know him just for his 6fer and that's about it.
vishalvirsingh Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I liked sreesanth and srinath a lot. sreesanth under achieved to what he could .

I'd say you are missing out Nehra from the list. If you talk about skills and pace, Nehra was right up there. Had it not been his fitness, he would have been one of leading left arm bowlers in the world.

Some observations For me Venkatesh Prasad having nearly 200 ODI wickets is a surprise...I always thought he was comparatively a better Test bowler than a ODI bowler based on a few spells I saw of his in Eng and South Africa in 1996. Apart from that famous Sohail incident and the 1999 WC, my memories of Venky as a ODI bowler was to see him get smacked around by Jayasuriya or Anwar in the 90's. Not surprising to see Agarkar as the 2nd best ODI fast bowler statistically that we have produced...may surprise newer followers of the game who are not familiar with the legend of Sir Aggy...how can someone who has pace, good seam do so well in one format and totally suck in the other? Irfan Pathan has a good average,S/r and 100+ wickets in both formats. He might have been the only beneficiary in history of Indian cricket where selectors dropped someone when they are in decline...usually if someone had stats like that, the selectors usually ensure that keeps on playing till his stats look unbelievably bad. Nehra despite having a senior player and legendary status, has pretty underwhelming stats...looks like he has been around forever but still he has lesser ODI wickets than Prasad and Prabhakar...in tests he has hardly eked out 40 wickets. Karsan Ghavri, first left arm medium pacer from India might be the least famous name in the top 5 in the test list...109 wickets in tests...I think should have had more mainstream recognition than he got. Chetan Sharma has a test 10 wicket haul,a ODI hattrick and also to add a ODI 100 but still will always be remembered for that Miandad 6. RP Singh just about makes it because the criteria was at least 40 wickets in tests...In ODI's too I expected his stats to be way better. This list makes for sad reading. Hope that BK and Shami will climb the rungs, at a good avg (and SR).
vishalvirsingh Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 There were good fast bowlers in kapil"s times who bowled faster n were good but never allowed to play for India. I believe there was excessive politics and kapil also delayed srinath"s career. Rightarmfast and Cricketics 2

Rightarmfast Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I was talking about ODI's. I doubt that had happened in ODI's. For the record, I have seen Kumble bowling at 115-120. Doesnt mean he had extra energy to do so. That's called guile too. maniac and express bowling 2

Raju had the potential to play for india but he just played one or 2 ODI matches. even salil ankola and vivek razdan should have played more. than recently VRV Singh did get some support but he could not deliver, he was said to be better than Sreesanth by Greg chapel. than Sreesanth who had serious control over Seam even better than ZAk was made to fail by DHONI as DHoni criticized him and his temper. Pacers are gems and jewels...INDIAN coaches and captains have to really take care of them. DHoni Supported IShant and ishant did win dhoni a test match or two but over all IShant under delivered. Dhoni supports Spinners and ncos he wants to keep against Spinners more ... Shammi has been declared as the Main Strike bowler and he is well supported and now umesh will also get support .. I believe that both will deliver. IN matches when sreesanth zak and Irfan used to play together -- Sreesanth used to match ZAK and had better seam than ZAK..Sreesanth had to be well supported.. DHONI could not handle him well. Kohli is supporting fast bowlers even when they go for runs...and hence I feel kohli will get better results from fast bowlers.
