ShebbySB Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 This is a crucial series as we will play the CT17 in England after that.No ODI matches in between. So we need to play full strength and make our combinations right. Our ODI team is far from being settled. This is my ODI squad for England series. Rohit (Should be fit) Dhawan (same) Kohli Dhoni(c) Rahul Kedar Hardik (Should play if he's fit, very imp for the balance of the team) Ashwin (Have not played ODIs,should play some,at least 2-3 games) Akshar (He's my pick over Jadeja in ODIs) Shami Bumrah Reserves:- Pandey,Jayant/Mishra,Umesh,BK. Any 1 b/w Jayant and Mishra will be in the squad and it's hard to ignore Mishra with his record in ODIs but Jayant gives other options in the field and with the bat.Problems of plenty when Jadeja doesn't even make the squad. Some may argue that key bowlers like Ashwin,Shami should be rested but keeping in mind we play ODIs next in Champions trophy we need to try our best combination against a pretty decent ODI team like England. tweaker 1
bowl_out Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Similar squad, but a different XI for me. Playing XI rohit dhawan kohli pandey dhoni rahul pandya jadeja ashwin mishra bumrah Reserves: kedar, bk, umesh, axar tweaker 1
BeautifulGame Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Should play our best team Rohit Dhawan Kohli Dhoni Rahul Pandey Pandya Ashwin Jadeja Shami Bumrah
sandeep Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Do either of Pandya or Rohit have a chance to be fit for the England ODIs - not recovered from injury - match-fit? Rahul would get a run at ODI Opener, I'm guessing. Pant and Deepak Hooda should be in contention for that #6 spot, especially if Hardik is still recovering. I would rest Shami, Ash and Jaddu in the 1st 2 ODIs at least, if not 3. Mishra should get a bunch of games, but would like to see Kuldeep and Chahal in the mix also. We should get Akshar Patel to bat a spot higher, give him a couple of games with the bat to see how he handles batting at #6/7. Mosher 1
Mosher Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Pant should be in as a batsman. We lack good lower order hitters and hopefully Pant would fit in that slot. express bowling 1
tweaker Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 This series will give a good oppurtunity for selectors to try out new players considering the injuries & amount of test cricket we are going to play. Most of the first choice players ie Rohit,Shikar,Rahane,Shami are injured Rahul is very brittle,he should be rested for the test series Ashwin,Jadeja & Yadav should be rested after bowling for a 5 test series. express bowling 1

BeautifulGame Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Noobs don't get to walk into India ODI and open. Even a talent of Tendy's stature debuted at #6. Pretty sure all Dhawan , Rahane , Gambhir all opened .Most others like Ganguly at worst started at no.3 Sachin didn't get to open straight away because he was middle order batsmen for his domestic team . It's only in test cricket we have this culture of blooding new bat at no.6
bowl_out Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 what happened to faiz fazal and barinder sran? two guys who walked into the odi side without much of experience at the domestic level. faiz fazal played one match, scored a fifty and is now forgotten? why was he even picked earlier? tweaker 1
Texan Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Considering Rohit, Shami, Pandya are going to be injured and may not recover on time, here's the team I would have: Rahul Pant (wk) Kohli Pandey Dhoni (batsman) Kedar Jadhav Axar Mishra Bhuv Bumrah Nathu / any other talented quick bowler / Jayant (in place of number 11 bowler on spin friendly tracks)
bowl_out Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Also, with MSK Prasad as Chief of selectors, I expect Rayudu to make a comeback into the squad..
express bowling Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Rohit, Pandya, Shami are injured. So.... Rahul Dhawan Kohli Dhoni Pant Jadhav / Hooda Axar Jaddu Bhuvi Umesh / Nathu / Shardul Bumrah Hooda / Jadhav Pandey Mishra Nathu Shardul -- We need lower-middle order big hitters and so...I am playing Jaddu in place of the injured Pandya. -- Ashwin is ok in ODIs but nothing special...whereas he is brilliant in tests. I would like him to rest his fingers after a gruelling series. -- Pant should debut in the middle order and be allowed to acclimatize to international pace with an older ball. -- Our focus should be to have big hitters between No. 5 to No. 8....Mishra misses out due to this reason. lack of big hitters in these positions have made our ODI team weak in recent times. -- If Pandya is fit the I would would replace Umesh with Pandya and Jaddu with Mishra. -- Axar is being developed as a No.7 big hitter all-rounder and he should remain in that slot. -- The No. 6 batter should be a big hitter and have the ability to chip in with a few overs. SUMO Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 best possible team keeping CT in mind rohit dhawan kohli dhoni rahul pandey jaddu ashwin shami umesh bumrah reserves: pant, hooda, hardik, aaron/nathu sorry to - kedar and axar (good but don't fit in our best team) rahane- please stick to tests only like pujara & vijay Mosher 1
rkt.india Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Rohit, Pandya, Rahane won't be fit by ODI series.
rkt.india Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Shami does not have a major injury and will be fit. It is still 3 weeks before that.

Fair enough .I didn't watch much of last IPL. So did he play in middle order most of the season? Because I only watched him in U-19 I assume he is a natural opener
