After Misbah and Younis, he seems to be one of those players who seem to have a likable personality. 

 

Good player and one Pakistan can rely on in future. Doesn't throw his wicket away that easily. A brilliant test batsman at this time.

He had a great last year. I was not aware that he is 32 years old, I thought that he is in late 20'. Pakistan now needs him even more with Younis and Misbah retiring

Outstanding batsman, the number 1 test opener at present. Vijay should watch Azhar's videos and learn about patience, grit and temperament. If he had similar mental caliber like AA he would be averaging above 50 and not 39 !!!!

With Misbah and Younis retiring I feel he should bat at 3 now. Generally your best batsman should not be opener if your middle order is not so solid

Openers are Openers and you never mess about your best to accomodate lesser

He isnt the most talented or flambuoyant  sometimes boring as well but he gets the job dobe and thats what really matters.His grit and determination has made him what he is today.

Absolutely. He is the top right now. I agree you dont mess with his batting order.

Generally it isn't advisable to shift position of a batsman doing so well. Besides why do you need a top no 3 batsman when you have such a brilliant opener? A great opener is much much rarer than a great no 3 or no 4 batsman.

The only criticism I have about AA is his propensity to go into a shell for no reason whatsoever. As an opener he is doing great in seeing off the new ball but after doing all the hard work he sometimes stops scoring for great periods of time, at times even blocking freebies(maybe it is the Misbah effect). If he can learn to rotate strike better or punish the bad balls ruthlessly he will become even better.

If it was that easy every spectator in the world would be an opening test bat:))

 

He has done fantastically well for Pakistan because as i said before he certainly show that he could do ths when he was 18 - 21

He generally plays with almost same strike rate as the likes of pujara and cook do but the problem is their other players play with better strike rate which evens out the situation but its not the case with our team cz our players are monotonous which results in the form of us always end up 100 runs short most of the times

@Gollum Watch his hundred vs SL in that fastest chase. He did rotate the strike and played with healthy SR but at times yes he is very defensive, haven't really got a batting partner either.

That was excellent batting by him there and reinforces my point. He is fully capable of rotating strike better, but is needlessly very very defensive. Ideally he should have scored 175 yesterday facing same number of balls and that would have propelled Pak total to 450. Maybe after #MisYou depart the batting culture under young blood will be more positive.
