SecondSlip Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Ben Stokes eager for IPL experienceEngland's flamboyant all-rounder Ben Stokes has expressed his desire to gain Indian Premier League experience, and confirmed putting himself forward for the upcoming player auctions, slated to be held on February 4 in Bengaluru. Speaking to the media in Pune in the lead up to the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against India, Stokes reckoned this year's IPL was a chance for him and many other England cricketers to go and see 'what it's all about'. "I've put myself forward for the auctions. It's a good opportunity to go away and experience a different competition. I won't say I am lucky, but in terms of the English summer, it is quite hard to get away and go and experience what it is like to play in these T20 leagues," Stokes said on Friday (January 13). Owing to scheduling clashes, a lot of English players have kept away from the IPL. This coming season, however, is kinder on Stokes and the likes, who intend to get the feel of one of the best T20 tournament in the world currently. "This year's IPL is a chance, not just for myself, but a few of the other English guys to go ahead and experience what it's like. Get a different side of T20 cricket, rather than just play in England. Many of the countries are doing it, so looking forward to see if I get a chance to go and see what it's all about," Stokes said. Stokes's decision to take the plunge could have been influenced by the positive feedback he received from his peers regarding the tournament. If picked by a franchise, the Durham man will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the best players and coaches from all over the world and improve his white-ball skills. "You end up playing against the best players in the world, albeit in T20 cricket. You look at the guys who've gone away and played franchise cricket in Australia and India as well, they've all come back and said very, very good things - said it has massively helped their cricket. "The guys you get to work with as well, not just players but coaches, they've all come away with really good experience and they've all said they think they've become better players from doing that. The more chances that we get, I think that is going to do us a world of good." The only stumbling block that could be in place is England's two-match ODI series against Ireland from May 5, when the IPL season wouldn't have even reached the halfway mark. If the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) consider it as crucial practice leading up to the ICC Champions Trophy in June and decide to pick a full-strength side, Stokes's IPL journey will be cut short rather early. Stokes, however, isn't thinking that far and will leave such a decisions with the ECB. "I am an England player. So the decision will get made on what would happen then. I'll just go with whatever... if they feel that it is best for the English guys who go out there to stay over there, then we'll follow that. And if they want us to come back to represent England, which is what our job is, then we'll come back and have no complaints," he said. tweaker and express bowling 2
sandeep Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Its a win-win for him and the team who gets him. Stokes will get ample opportunity to improve his bowling in pressure situations in the IPL. IPL is really doing the job of finishing school for new and established players - not unlike what county cricket was doing in the 70s and 80s. But first he needs to get on his knees and pay due respect to Indian cricket and the reigning monarch. King Kohli. Stay tuned for more press releases where "Stokesy" will be lavishing no-holds-barred praise on Kohli and other members of Team India. express bowling and tweaker 2

sandeep Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 If Sheikh Chilly is a SRH guy, that finalizes it. I have found a team that I dislike more than the Bangalore Boozers. I would expect the daaruwalas to make a big push for Stokes though, followed by the Ambani Sugarbabies. tweaker 1

The Realist Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 If picked he will choke in any pressure situation and will need a ton of sun-tan lotion as wilts in the heat. Mediocre T20 player. GoldenSun, sandeep and tweaker 2 1

Billings, Buttler and Woakes are the guys that seem more impressive out of this lot. I hear Willey's been doing well in Big bash, but haven't seen much of him. GoldenSun 1
