Axar is pretty much the description of meddling cricketer not good enough in either discipline. Even in the last Newzealand series where wickets were helpful for spinners he averaged 47 Agree
express bowling Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) Axar has much more potential as a big hitting LOI batsman than Jadeja and he is an economical bowler. He may not be great as a pure bowler but is the better all-rounder in LOIs. Edited January 17, 2017 by express bowling

So far he's been slightly better than Jaddu with the bat and worse with the ball. Perfect back-up for Jaddu, but needs to get better on both sides of the ball. He can though - raw material is there. I hope he gets more opportunity with the bat in domestic and IPL - needs to bat in the top 5 for a couple of years. IPL won't do that though, maybe Syed Mushtaq Ali. More and more, this will be the challenge for up-coming India players - IPL teams will always be stacked with talent - local and foreign - they will not get developmental opportunities and exposure. Domestic cricket and 'A' tours is where that's at. I am so appreciative of the fact that Dravid took on the mantle of guiding the young ones - u19 and A teams - I think its entirely due to him that Pandya was developed and used as a 3rd seamer in the A tour to Australia - look how well that has paid off for Team India.

Dravid has done a fantastic job with many youngsters in the A team and U19 teams and I generally like his choice of bowlers and all-rounders.....pacers with pace.....spinners with spin. He has given push to new-age big hitters too. His type of thinking cricketers, who have actually done it in the international arena, know what kind of players are needed for international cricket and how to prepare them mentally. He is perhaps is the only high profile Indian cricketer who has worked with the A teams and U19 teams and actually tried to develop youngsters for Indian cricket......a job which is not as glamorous as being an international commentator or the head coach of Team India.....and I am really appreciative of him for that. GautiMaan Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Crisp hitting and could've carried us over the line yesterday,if he hadnt picked the only man on the legside boundary. Breakthrough ODI knock is around the corner and in true 'SIR' fashion it will be in England.
coffee_rules Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Yes 12 runs has come in an over and he wanted to hit over the one guy on the leg-side. A bit of temperament would have taken through yesterday. I still believe he has potential like Hardik to finish ODIs. A better prospect than Ashwin.

Tibarn Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 He doesn't have enough power IMO to play like he does. He needs to train with Kohli or copy him to improve in that area. Too many of his slogs only come out to two runs. That happened all the time in the last IPL.

Yesterday he hit boundaries and we had already 12 from that over.He had no need to go for that big hit.Could /Should have just picked the single and bought Jadhav back on strike .But under pressure his brain is haywired and he doesn't think clearly. express bowling 1
BeautifulGame Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 he already played that innings in the last CT final. That was batting first though.Jadeja is still an excellent lower order bat batting first because he doesn't have to deal with pressure. It's batting second under pressure ,the problem is with his batting. Either way he makes into the team on his bowling and fielding along and we have to his batting just as a bonus unless his temperament improves.

I disagree. He hits boundaries every once in a while, including yesterday, but I'm basing my criticism on the last IPL. For the Lions, he started out the season at 5 in the batting order, and by the time of the playoffs, he slid all the way down to 7 in the batting order. The Lions had to play an extra batsman at the top of the lineup just to push either Dwayne Smith or Aaron Finch down the order to actually have a power hitter/finisher. Jadeja thoroughly failed at that role, at least last season. He ended up with a strike rate of around 107 for the season, for someone who was designated to finish innings for the team. He hit 14 fours and 4 sixes in the entire season, and scored 111 or his 191 runs in singles/doubles. When he tried to hit boundaries, they mostly ended up doubles. Part of that is because Rajkot is such a large stadium, I think the ground with the biggest boundaries in the IPL, but, even when he hit along the ground, there wasn't much pace on the ball after his hits. This is in contrast to Karthik or Raina, who he batted with often, who were able to hit boundaries, even along the ground, in Rajkot. Part of that may be because of poor placement. He didn't seem to have poor temperament, just a lack of power. Comparing him to some of the other all rounders in other International LOI sides like Faulkner, Russel, Morris, he seems to really be lacking in boundary hitting ability.
The Realist Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Jadeja is a lost cause when it comes to batting. So many games & opportunities have come & gone yet his impact has been minimal. Not got the power to clear boundaries consistently & placement is often poor. Gives the impression that any runs he scores are a bonus which for someone with his experience is not good enough.
