What happened to Krunal Pandya?

He was, at times, promoted up the order ahead of the likes of Jos Buttler and Kieron Pollard and delivered by striking the ball cleanly. Krunal's whopping strike-rate of 191 is the highest among all batsmen with a minimum of 200 runs in IPL 2016. Most of his runs came up the order, including a blinding 86 off 37 balls against Delhi Daredevils. But his clean ball-striking could be effective down the order as well.

His left-arm spin is rapid and accurate, so batsmen can rarely use the pace to their advantage. He also pitched in with the ball with some economical spells and can serve as the second spinner in this side. He dismissed AB De Villiers both times when there was a MI-RCB match. His bowling reminds me a bit of Imad Wasim from Pakistan.

Where did he go and what happened to him? He looked like a decent player with X-Factor and surely could have been selected for a T20 series at home to see how he does! His brother Hardik also made it to the T20 squad last year against Australia with lesser performances than this. Don't know why we are obsessed with Yuvraj in T20s, he has been below par at the T20 World Cup last year but still is getting picked for some strange reason.

Looking forward to see Krunal Pandya in Vijay Hazare trophy & IPL. Good performances there could mean him getting a debut this year :D

He has been out due to injury and played just 1 Ranji trophy match doing ok-ish with 2/50 with the ball and 23 runs

IMO he is the kind of all rounder we should have had in our LOI for last 4 years. He smoked almost every international bowler in IPL and MI dropped HPandya for him. Heck Krunal was promoted ahead of international hardhitters like Pollard, Butler, Corey etc.  And we had Jadeja played in 4 T20 wcup campaign where he didn't even perform once ahead of Krunal!

This guy is so massively overrated.  His bowling is worse than Suresh Raina's.  And his batting is over-hyped on account of hitting a few sixes to a handful of desi spinners.

That's a bit harsh bro. I think a new player deserves quite a few chances before being written off as "massively overrated." It's not like he will do any worse than Yuvraj in this format, he's been a passenger in our T20 squads since the 2014 T20 World Cup.

Let's leave Yuvi and his decline aside.  Why use that to somehow lower the standards for Krunal Pandya.  There are a lot of guys in Indian FC cricket who bowl a bit of spin and swing the bat.  What makes Krunal is so much better?  Even Akshar Patel has done what Krunal has done in IPL with the bat.  And he's proven himself as a better bowler than Krunal.  And Akshar is an average batsman who can slog it a bit, and an absolute darter with the ball.

Yes, I'm being a bit harsh, and who knows, Krunal could be the next Sehwag - Veeru started as a spinner who could bat a bit.  But reality is that Krunal has done f@ck-all to be trumpeted as a no-argument Team India selection.  He needs to show a bit more before he can be considered a sure shot.
