When there are kids dropping out of high school to opt for McDonalds or Hair-dressers jobs dreaming of making it big in Am Idol/H'wood , the jobs that are filled up by Indians using H1Bs, how will they be able to fill up these jobs with Americans? If H1Bs are cut, all jobs will move out of USA to India/Philippines/China etc. One more job sector, moving out of US, just like manufacturing jobs. This is all election banter, locals like the tone of saving AMerican jobs, even Obama uttered those words. Nothing will happen, the bill is in Congress and will stay there.

Like Coffee said that the bill is not easy to pass but then again Trump is doing whatever he can for his people and his country to get better and giving his people a chance to earn those positions which go easily to foreign students. He is not wrong totally. It could be harsh on many Indians including on people here but we have to see why he is doing this. Every country needs to protect its jobs, be it India. Book_Worm 1

Democrats (person introducing the bill is a dem) have been vehemently calling for this for a long long time. Even hillary would have to make this call.

On average Indians better than average when it comes to income and are mostly legally in the country. (of-course there are illegal Indians as well). they are a hard working community who dont indulge in blue collar crime. On the bill. I back it to pass. Maybe the 130k figure will be diluted down to say 100k. But there will be a whole host of other stipulations put in.

OPT won't be affected but the newer H1's will suffer especially if the salary cap is 130K....Also FTE's with Indian consulting firms will be affected....I am sure consultants on C2C will be fine for the most part.

Historically Most well-off Indians in the USA I know are republicans-the doctors,owner of IT consultancy types. The democrats are usually the middle-class or student types who don't have voting rights anyways. Trump was an exception because of the panic that was set due to potential attacks on minorities and discrimination. 100 K will also create problems-130K is even more extreme.....from what I know and have seen TCS,Wipro,Cognizant,Infy etc pay in the 80-90K range for most positions. You should be earning atleast 65 dollars per hour. I don't think Business analyst and QA will make the cut. Even new h1 who have multiple layers will not make the cut. J1 visa is for residency in US. I know my cousin is currently doing residency she makes around 80k. I don't think residency is impacted. Residency is more of learn and earn kind of a thing. It'll put universities completely out of the H1B business. Say what you may about industry, university research in basic mathematics and sciences will take the biggest hit. It is ridiculous to put an absolute number to this. They should come up with some way to calculate a wage for each position in a particular location and make restrictions accordingly. Getting pulled over happens during both repub and dem presidency. Policies of democrats are crap they might low income and middle income people to become lazy.

The importance of OPT comes into picture when students have to repay their loan after they graduate, which they can only do it by working in US for few years before returning to home countries. I can speak for mechanical engineering here, if I intend to come to India soon after graduation, I need around 30 lacs per annum pay package to pay off my debt which no company will offer me unless I have at least 20 years of industrial experience. Hence the importance of H-1B visa for international students. randomGuy 1
