kosingh Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 When someone like Shikhar Dhawan is getting 12 cr, Stokes' price doesn't seem so bad. beetle 1

He is surely good but not as good as 14cr buy I feel. You mentioned his bowling. His bowling is pretty bad. And that is where I feel how much is Pune planning to make out of him? I don't see him completing his four overs every time. In fact some Indian bowlers would bowl better than him. So now the question- if his bowling won't work that well, will his batting alone keep him in the playing x1 of Pune? This is where I feel that his batting isn't special with which he can dictate things and get on top of the bowlers. He is not like one of those overrseas batters who can dominate the bowler like - Guptill, McCullum, Jason Roy, Gayle, ABD Villers. If he fails with the bat, I doubt he will be able to keep his place in the Pune team just as a bowler. Mitchell Marsh, who sucks in other formats will actually do better than him for Pune I feel. He is someone who can dominate the bowling in twenty20 from ball 1 as compared to Stokes. Boy o boy, if you are saying Stokes is worse than Guptill against spinners, that's quite a low bar for his batting. That his bowling is no great shakes is well-known already. 100% agree that Stokes' bid got inflated due to hype. Mills got maybe 10% more, due to shortage of quality bowlers, but he's close to his value. Stokes is around 2 to 3x his value I think. I'm just glad that it wasn't the Bombay team over-paying for Stokes' white-ball training adventure in India. These Pommie fans better be grateful every time they think of India - IPL is polishing the future core of their team and making them ready for big games - priceless practice in big crowd, noisy pressure conditions against the world's elite for the likes of Buttler, Billings, Roy, Stokes, Woakes. And they get a boatload of cash on top. You're welcome. speedheat 1

See the difference between people who follow the news n watch games n the guys who understand cricket n spot talent is huge, Stokes mightily have good stats in limited overs bowling but he has all the tools to be successful n he can be a match changer both ways

Marsh will be a more consistent hitter. IPL is 20 overs and not 50 overs. Stokes bowling isn't great and he won't be aboe to keep his place just based on his poor bowling. And if he fails with the bat, then no use of keeping him in the team.

You call players by how consistent they are and Marsh has been pretty comsistent with the bat in 2020s. That is why players like Kohli, Raina, Gayle, Rohit etc will always be considered top tier 2020 bats for their consistency. Then comes players like Marsh. And below that comes average players like Ben Stokes, who could perform better and raise their game but aren't there yet.

Even in IPL, he has been hot and cold after his debut season. In International T20s, Marsh averages 18 with an SR of 102. There is a reason doesnt make it to Aussie T20 team anymore. Stokes doesnt have a great average too but good SR. While Marsh bats in top order and Stokes in lower middle order.

And he doesn't make it to Aussie teams because Australia is trying too many things always in 2020s by giving chances to new performers of Big Bash like Lynn etc but that doesn't mean he is still not considered good by them. Marsh doesn't always bat in top order. Thigs change in twenty20 fast. Marsh is just way too consistent in 2020s. Stokes is just an average 2020 bat. He is a better 50 over player.
