Gollum Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Blessed are we to have such a great spinner amongst our ranks who can win us matches even when plagued by injury. 200 wickets in India as well, respect. Easily an Indian ATG and may be even better than Bedi, Chandra, Prasanna, Kumble etc on Indian pitches. Bhajji must be fuming LOL.
King Tendulkar Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 How can you slam an atg spinner been sensational last few years based on 1.5 games . And in those 1.5 games bowed ok just not amazing .
satishg Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 haha DSR you are the greatest Indian cricket fan i have seen over the years in this forum :) Yes we were wrong in suspecting Ashwin but even you have to accept that he was not at his best in the last couple of games but he came back like a champion he is and proved us why even a 60% fit Ashwin is world class. Great show by Ash! Champion stuff!
King Tendulkar Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Another reason why ashwin did it bowl well in first innings was more kohli not skippering well ( kohli was superb in second innings ). Everyone moaning why jadeja not used more. Actually that effected ashwin more as only 4 bowlers and he was bowled waaay too much . He clearly got tired . So not bowing as well , less revs . Even spinners need breaks and not massive spells to see best of them look hiw lyon struggled in second innings once we showed resistance and he had to bowl more overs .
Yoda-esque Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Cricket is not a game that requires peak fitness ..atleast for spinners.

The argument made by OP is based on the premise that Ashwin's poor fitness is impacting his form. While that might be the case, a marginal drop in fitness w.r.t spin bowling won't impact peak performance as it would for some other disciplines for e.g. tennis ,soccer or swimming. Tell me what aspect of Ashwin's fitness is tested in his gentle ambling to the bowling crease and spinning the ball ? Compare athletes in some other disciplines with cricketers to see what I mean. If that doesn't convince you look at some of the world class spinners like Shane Warne who was a smoker for quite some time. Edited March 7, 2017 by Yoda-esque

Pollack Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Still not convinced about Ashwin. He bowled like useless for majority part of the match.

Let us appreciate him for his 2nd spell yesterday which clinched the match for us. If Harbhajan were in such a situation he would have run away like a coward(Lord's 2011). This team isn't in form, they have won this match purely on the basis of mental toughness, grit and character. vvvslaxman and Pollack 2
CG Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 MAR 8, 2017 I told Matt Renshaw when he was batting in the first innings that if they didn't score big, I'll have them for soup and dessert. Offspinner R Ashwin on the on-field interactions between India and Australia

Gollum Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Love the outspokenness of this young team. Under the previous captain our players were such a timid lot afraid to open their mouths. Once Sreesanth sledged RSA in the midst of a potentially series winning spell in Cape Town and Captain scolded him in public view and thus converted a sure shot win to a draw. Thankfully with Kohli at the helm those dark days are over !!!
