BeautifulGame Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 8 hundreds is exceptional for ODIs one match doesnt make a career. Kohli has played amazing knocks, not just in bilaterals but also in multi-way tournaments. He also has 2 centuries in WC. As I said I rate him higher because he delivered in the biggest stage. Kohli has played 5 world Cup knock out games and hasn't got even a 50 yet. I rate scoring in world cups as more important. So yes Smith is better Odi player for me than Kohli .If u wanna rate Kohli based one coring in meaningless bilaterals as better fine upto individual opinions. I will rate Kohli more if he delivers in 2019 world
Muloghonto Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Smith is better in tests, only because i rate him higher in sticking it out in tough conditions than Kohli. This series itself is an example- on tough wickets, against massively superior bowling, Smith is outperforming Kohli. That being said, their overall averages have an artificially bigger gap- Smith plays mostly on roads in Australia, india has given far more challenging wickets to batsmen consistently over the last 2-3 years. goose Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Kohli has been a bit unlucky to be fair. Umpire's call on impact and bat and pad real close together but given out on the field in 2nd innings. Cricketics 1

Yes, he didn't perform in the SF 2015, but you can;t just ignore the sheer number of matches he has won us from hopeless positions in ODI's n T20s. Agreed. Very important considering we were chasing a massive target for a workd vup final. When he got out. Most oressure was gone. Gambhir and Kohli p'ship had taken India to a slightly better position before Dhoni came and played a gem. Bigg Brother, Stuge, OpeningBatsman and 1 other 4

But how is bi lateral series meaningless?? Some of the greatest matches in history are from bilateral / 3 way / 4 way seriess. Anyways, opinions differ. Edited March 7, 2017 by OpeningBatsman

We dropped smith 4 times allowing him to get a hundred but he looks at see against reverse swing on low pitches and is a hugelbw candidate.I feel he is too much dependant on hand eye coordination and he might struggle as he ages more than kohli. BeautifulGame Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Smith's record Kohli's record Smith practically has a superior record to Kohli in basically every country. And way above him England . That's without considering his 100 in last test and Kohli's continued struggles in turning tracks in both SA series and this one. Doubt anyone can seriously say Kohli is a better test batsman than Smith .

So untill 2011 semi final of world cup, Sachin wasn't a great ODI player? By your logic Sachin who failed in final of 2003 world cup and in 1999 super six stage, basically wasn't the great player untill he scored 80 odd the knock in 2011 world cup semis. You are calling the greatest ODI player not good enough until that knock that means. What a logic Rofl. OpeningBatsman 1

Sachin was our top scorer in 96 semi, scored big in 2003 super six and semi final(100s and 90s).That's before his 80+ in Pak semi and 50 in QF Sachin only has issues in world Cup final with his chocking.

I knew this Collis king point will come lol I am only talking when comparing great players.I consider both Kohli and Smith great modern players .So I seperate who is better based on their performance in biggest games.

Lol you guys use choke word so easily. May be you deserve Misbah who scores regularly in big games but doesn't win his team any games. Pakistan cricket team need more fans anyway.

Ie, great players have great performance over 10-15 year period, unless they debut really late in their careers. So far, Smith, Kohli etc have great stats because they play a flood of cricket, so they come across as great. But even Smith- he has 2 years of scoring at a great rate. Well i don't care if he scores 4000 runs in those 2 years, its still 2 years and 'cashing in on a purple patch'. So i don't rate them as great, without them producing great performances atleast close to a decade. BeautifulGame 1
