    • Yes, he is the biggest mug to wear India jersey

He is the single biggest source of my cricket related nightmares. I saw him cost us a historic series win against that ATG Aussie side in 2003-04. Again earlier this year he cost us a series win in South Africa. He hasn't improved one bit in these 15 odd years. We got lucky against our then nemesis England in 2016 because others stepped up big time to compensate for PP's lousiness behind the stumps, remember how he would miss 4-5 chances every match thus throwing our bowlers off momentum. I rarely follow IPL matches but today being a Saturday sat down to watch the game and that was a trainwreck performance by the RCB keeper, a simple run out chance miss because the retard couldn't gather the ball and a dolly drop. How can you mess up twice in a 20 over innings? Come to think of it, when was the last time he kept an entire match without fluffing chances? PP dropped as many catches in 1 test match (Cape Town) that Saha dropped in his previous 17 completed test matches. Ofc Saha is the greatest Indian keeper of all time so not fair to compare him with riff-raff, but I am pretty sure that all our keepers I have watched since my initiation into cricketing fandom (Mongia, Dahiya, Dighe, Dasgupta, Ratra, Dhoni, Karthik) are miles better than this piece of *. In fact I can also confidently state that his only competition Kamran Akmal too is a better keeper.

The more pressing issue is the myth about his supposedly world class batting. In fact that is the metric Pappu lovers and Saha haters push to justify his inclusion into Team India. Take a look at the stats for yourselves, 65 international matches overall and not a single 100. Average of 31 in tests, 23 in ODIs (SR 76) and 18 in T20s (SR 112). Let us narrow the focus to tests because his ODI/T20 inclusion isn't a threat thanks to Don Cool. But selectors and team management somehow feel he can be a test option. The zero 100s column is even more LOLworthy because he has batted at the top of the order on numerous occasions. Saha has 3 100s ( 1 outside Asia), Karthik 1, Dhoni 6...FFS even Ajay Ratra and Deep Dasgupta have 100s against WI and Eng respectively and both those guys played single digit no of test matches. The useless PP has already played 25 test matches, many of those on featherbeds yet didn't exactly set the stage on fire. His fanboys can harp about his 60 runs in a 700 wallah patta in Sydney (2004) and a few other 50s here and there, all on pattas btw. But is that enough?

I can confidently state that he has scored 900 odd runs in test cricket but must have cost the team more via his disgraceful keeping. Even assuming roughly 3 drops per test (being very kind here) he must have given around 75 lives to opponents thus costing us in excess of 900 runs. In 2003-04 Aus his keeping cost us 100s of runs, in SA this year about 140 runs on a low scoring pitch...both marquee tours bungled because of this guy. All in all his contribution has been a net negative, probably the only player I can say has been an overall negative for his team. Even if we find a keeper who won't score a single run his whole life but take 95% of his catches, that will be a gigantic upgrade over PP.

My vote- Yes, he is the worst ever.

Oh don't get me started about this guy

I have seen much better wicketkeepers here in Ahmedabad , a young good wicketkeeper/ batsman left to play for Tripura .......but he is Top Dog , captain , wicketkeeper, opening bat , what Parthiv Patel says, goes in Gujarat cricket

Don't forget guys who make me wanna quit supporting our team, as they r , were cringe worthy, Unadkunt, I Siddique, Noel David, Mhambrey n so many others.

But unlike those guys Parthiv Patel cost us 2 marquee series victories, Aus 2003-04 and SA 2018. Besides those players howsoever bad played like what 1/2/4 matches? Pappu has played 65 matches including 25 tests, even Shane Bond played only 18 tests.

Parthiv Patel is a very bad wicket keeper like described by OP but his batting has always been alright.

I fully identify with the OP's pain w.r.t. the misses chances while being a wk. I really want to punch on his face for doing that.

He may not have big 100's but he has compact technique while facing fast bowlers even on bouncy tracks. He has a good eye and plays the cut as well as the hook with equal ease. He is not bad as a batsman. I wonder what would be his situation if he were to try as a specialist batsman instead of being a wk batman. He might have had a more fruitful career.

In one phrase, he is a "hard track bully". If he were playing more matches in Aus, SA, NZ, Eng and the old WI pitches, we would have seen lot more of his knocks. He plays reasonably well in LoIs with reliable 30-40-50 runs every innings.

Forget big 100s yaar, he doesn't even have a small 100 in international cricket over 65 matches. Technique isn't the be all, end all, there are many other factors that define a batsman eg temperament, shot selection, flexibility, fitness, patience, guts etc. If you are talking about his technique and ease of shots, let me remind you of a certain Mark Ramprakash. That guy had wonderful technique and stylish shots, was a legit county legend but failed miserably in the international stage because he lacked the mental toughness that cricket at the highest level demands. PP might even be talented with the bat but he has been unable to translate that to performance and that is unacceptable because of the runs he costs the team with his shoddy glovework. You may speculate about PP as a pure batsman but right from 2003 (his debut year) our middle order has been very tough to break into, no wonder he felt his best chance was to enter as a keeper.

I don't think he is any form of bully. In tests he averages 32 in Aus, 26 in Eng, 6.50 in NZ and 14 in SA (here). That is worse than Karthik who had a stellar series in Eng 2007 (one of the chief architects behind our historical series win there after 22 years) and a great show in Cape Town 2007. Now Karthik played only 23 tests compared to PP's 25. In ODIs PP has 4 50+ scores in 38 matches, average 23, SR 76. I won't call those stats good in this era of batting, those numbers would have been considered decent in 1975 but certainly not in this era.

Ishant Sharma would go close

Duh please. Ishu was pretty good in 2007-2008 and since 2014 he has turned a new leaf. During Dhoni's dark reign in 2011-2015 lambu gave us Lord's win, almost Wellington (Kohli dropped BMac on 9 :whack:), even in our toughest recent assignments (Aus 2017, SA 2018) he bowled well. In tests he has 2 MOM, 2 MOS :hatsoff: and even in ODIs he has 3 MOM in 80 matches. Pappu has exactly zero awards in all formats combined.

Actually sir, we have a saying here in Quetta; one biryani doesn't feed a famine. Ishant has continually performed at a poor level for his career entirety. If he were working at my company he would surely be sacked by now

Your profile name very silly. You celebrate the cheating Aussie. India soon be number 1 when win 4-0 in Aussie hehehehe.

I reckon we will still beat India without those three even though two are all time greats. Your batters won’t be able to handle our pace on pitches which aren’t doctored and we still got the GOAT spinner lyon
