Work cut out for Team India

We know that Kohli's batting and many of the bowlers are a strength, but there are a few glaring weaknesses that may need to be addressed if Ind hopes to advance to SFs of WC19 by winning at least 7 group games:

  • Fielding is pathetic. Rohit, Dhawan, Jadhav, Chahal, Bumrah, etc., need to improve
  • Power Plays are being wasted. There are tons of threads on this subject
  • Novelty factor of some players wearing off. Teams have evaluated Indian players and are engaging with some players much better. For e.g. Jadhav's bowling
  • Some players have regressed or are past their best. Again, there are tons of threads on this

I read many posts that imply that everything will automatically take care of itself. XYZ happened before ABC WC, but we did this or that in ABC world cup. Let's not forget, even Pak and SL are hoping to repeat their favorable events but it is new game with its own challenges .... To address many of these issues, there are viable solutions but it appears as if the team Ind has made up its mind on the world cup's combination. If that is the case work is cut out for team Ind and they will have to pull up its socks by considerable margin to face full strength sides of major teams

Problems  player for player basis.

Dhawan - Not in the best form.Inconsistency is back in his batting.Getting out too frequently to loose shots.

Rohit - Unfit.Wasting deliveries in PP and putting pressure on dhawan.Killing chases with tuk tuk.

Kohli - Bad tactical captain.

Rayudu - Failed experiment that never should have happened.Horrible against pace, bad strike rate.Horrible fielder.

Shankar - Surprise inclusion. But not given enough time to mature.Doesnt have idea about his precise role in the team.

Dhoni - Has lost the ability to score quickly and puts immense pressure on other batsman.

Pant -Given no time to mature.Low on confidence.Bad keeping.Hasn't yet found the tempo of the ODI innings .

Kedar - Good utility batsman.Bowling being worked out slowly.Fitness concern.

Hardik - Concerns regarding fitness.Mediocre bowler on flat pitches.Batting suspect in collapse situation.

Rahul - Low on confidence.Poor form. Not good strike rotation ability.Tendency to hit too many balls in the air.

Shami - Bowling fine.No batting contribution.

Bumrah -Bowling overburdened.Fitness scare.No batting.

Chahal - Blows hot blows cold.Horrible batsman and fielder.

Kuldeep - May go missing on crunch matches.

Bhuvi - Can go for tons of runs on an off day.Not confident in his wicket taking ability.

We were over dependent on top 3 in batting, any issues there were bound to cause mayhem.

Let's hope gabbar strikes his big tournament form and we make it to semis with Kohli scoring as well. That would be nice given the current state of affairs.

And then get hammered by Eng or SA or Aus. There is no way in hell you can win a SF or a QF leave alone Final without the contributions from lower middle order and tail which is non existent in our team.

That was a serious possibility (except SA) even otherwise. With this series in view, SF doesn't look like a certainty.

And none of the bolded can field.

With Rohit(in 2019),Dhawan,Bhuvi and Rahul being average at best.

So only 2-3 good fielders

To me Ind is not a nation that understands sports. We do well in some sports due to select talented individuals that seem to pop up from time to time from the relatively large pool that we have in cricket

When the whole system is corrupt with regional bias, seniority and a lack of accountability, it's hard to sustain for long on talent alone.

Saini, iyer, Kishan, Vihari, Mayank, Gopal, Gautam, Rajput should have been tried in last one year.

But whenever there was opportunity selectors selected tried and tested failures

Jadeja has been the supposed back up for Pandya in the last 1 year, you can gauge the wisdom of the decision makers :rotfl:

At this point Ind’s best players among those recently tried are:

Tier 1: Kohli, Bumrah

Tier 2: Kuldeep, Pandya

Tier 3: Shami, Bhuvi, Chahal

Tier 4: Dhawan, Shankar, Jadhav, Pant

Tier 5: Rohit, Jadeja and Dhoni, who is a good WK though, DK

Tier 6: Rayudu
