Wriddhiman Saha will get a chance to stake his claim for a return to India's Test team when he tours the Caribbean with the India A team after the World Cup. The tour, which includes five one-day matches (from July 11 to 21) and three four-day matches (from July 24 to August 9) will directly precede the senior India team's tour of the West Indies, which is set to begin in early August.

A spate of injuries has led to Saha not featuring for India since the first Test of their South Africa tour in January 2018. He has been named in the India A squad for all three four-day matches in the West Indies, with KS Bharat as the other wicketkeeping option. Rishabh Pant, the incumbent Test keeper, isn't in the four-day squad but finds a place in the one-day squad.

Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey have been named captains of the three-day and one-day sides respectively.

Given that India will tour the West Indies soon after, the India A squad includes a number of players who are likely to be part of the senior team, such as Test batsmen Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari. Shaw and Agarwal, along with KL Rahul, have established themselves as the three first-choice Test openers in recent months, with the more established pair of M Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan falling out of favour.

Neither Vijay nor Dhawan is part of the India A squads in the West Indies, suggesting that the selectors might now be looking beyond them. One of the batsmen who might be in the reckoning for a top-order slot is Shubman Gill, who recently made his ODI debut in New Zealand. The selectors have picked him in the four-day squad but not in the one-day squad.

Along with the squads for the West Indies tour, the senior national selection committee, chaired by MSK Prasad, has also announced the India A squads for a home series against Sri Lanka A, which begins on May 25. This series will include two four-day matches and five one-dayers, all of which will be played in the towns of Belgaum and Hubli in Karnataka.

Ishan Kishan will captain the team in the four-day matches, and Priyank Panchal in the one-dayers.

Given his age it is pretty hard to stage a come back. He is not  a marketable super star like DHoni.

Test team doesn't need superstars, waise bhi only hardcore fans follow that format and are very few in number.

He wasnt dropped for bad form, He was injured and so He deserves to get chance once again. It is not that he ran away from this format like thala did.

He has made his mark in chances he has got. Pant can play as batsman, and Saha can play, too over jokers like Rohit and Rahane. Atleast, with him in the squad, Pant can work on his keeping.

Unless Pant picks up an injury his career is pretty much done and dusted.

Squad will always need a 2nd keeper and he can play that role, maybe an occasional chance in starting XI when Pant is out of action. His career is near its end, agree and glad that it is Pant who has shut the door on him.

These days if keeper gets injured we can have a substitute keeper. He can play that role.

Not there yet.

Bharat is almost there after his performances in India A games.  he is going to be the backup soon.  Saha is unreliable with his fitness.  he picks up an injury every test series.  i dont remember him playing a single full series without getting injured.  Has a history of hamstring injuries and he is not getting younger.

Really?

You don't remember his appearances before Cape Town 2018?

In 2017 he played BD test, Aus series, the 2 Lanka series without injury. Since his comeback in 2015 he got injured only twice, 2016 Eng and 2018 RSA.....not injury every series

Probably, I was wrong in injury every series but he has a chronic issue of hamstring injury is not wrong.
