So as a Dhoni fan who thinks he's a very good T20 batsman were you extremely satisfied with his performance (listed below) in the 2016 world cup? 89 runs with an average boosted by 4 sub-20 run not outs.

v NZ: 30 (30)

v Pak: 13* (9)

v BD: 13* (12)

v Aus: 18* (10)

v WI: 15* (9)

What about his 4*(7) in the 2014 World T20 final?

Replied to BCCI on each of those innings.

Regarding the final, disappointing knock.

You should also consider though, that it was a tough pitch for a new batsman and most balls Dhoni faced were accurate yorkers.

Rohit, Rahane, Yuvraj ofc everyone struggled. Kohli for his first 25-30 balls was scoring run a ball. Even their batsman barring Sanga were all very slow early on.

How many matches has he won for us in this format then?

I can easily name matches won by Raina,Rohit and even Yuvraj in old times

At the spot which he comes in its not exactly a spot which can produce many match winning innings.

Came in at 4 against England recently and you saw the result.

All those batsmen you named went missing themselves in last WT20 according to your criteria.

Yeah thats my main criticism. He should have batted himself higher as he cannot hit big from ball one like Raina. For CSK he used to but never did for India

All those players have done well in other matches atleast

Anyway now we have Pant and Dhoni's own philosophy of backing youngsters in T20 should be applied

For CSK he doesn't have players like Kohli and Yuvi ahead of him.

Dhoni is not captain anymore to apply his philosophy.

He used to have Hussey,Raina and he would come ahead of Bravo and Faf sometimes too

Hussey opens, Raina at 3(same Raina at 4 or 5 for India). Are you suggesting Bravo is in same league as Yuvi lol, he is like Pandya at best. Faf mostly opened when he played.

Don't even know why this is "controversial".   Dhoni is a shadow of his former self as a batsman for the last 2 years, and simply unable to hit big shots until he plays 15-20 balls - That's untenable in a quality T20 side.   He's still an excellent 'keeper, but is worse than Sarfraz of greenbros with the bat.  And reality is, even when he was at the peak of his personal batting abilities, he didn't do much in T20s for India with the bat.  He's played good T20 innings in the past, but 99% of those have been at the IPL level.

Whatever he is, he has been better than others. That's all I am saying. So if he is poor, ok but others are poorer.

The poor ones have been dropped  - Dhawan, Rahane - these guys aren't in the T20 starting lineup.  And fairly, neither should Dhoni.  It's time for his successor.  Whether that's Pant, Kishan or Samson.

I'm just glad that Sarfraz Khan's dad didn't try to make him a keeper.   We would have a real Amar, Akbar, Anthony type of choice there:p:

Rahane was there till last WT20. Yuvi is there too.

In the last T20I series we played Dhoni was arguably our best batsman.

Rahane is only in consideration for the openers slot - the only place a batsman can justify a slowish start and middling strike rate.  Dhoni is not an opener.  And regardless, neither should be in there.  Dhoni needs to produce runs from ball one, kinda like Chris Morris does for Delhi.  And reality is that its just not possible for him anymore.

Yuvi, is also on a similar decline like MS, and pretty much at his worst as a T20 bat, and is still a better option than Dhoni.  That just tells the sad story.  I've defended Dhoni on this board against nonsense as much as you have - but you can't sit here and be a blind fanboy.  Dhoni is no longer good enough to wear India blues in T20s.  Hasn't been for a year now.  Accept it.

He may even score a few quality innings in IPL this season - he usually does.  But that's not enough to play for Team India.  Especially when viable options have made their case - at this point, I would rather play even an Ishan Kishan ahead of Dhoni - while Pant and Samson have actually made stronger cases.

Agreed Dhoni is not best suited to T20 format. In an ideal world we should've had a replacement already but thanks to our selectors we don't. They never tried someone like Pant even in the recent England series and continued to go with tried and tested. This lack of foresight is why we are in this predicament. Our selectors don't plan ahead. They did the same thing when likes of Tendulkar, Laxman and Dravid were over the hill. They didn't drop them from home series so youngsters like Kohli, Rahane and Rohit have an opportunity to acclimatize to Tests at home before venturing out. They kept the oldies and the results were the shellackings in Aus and Eng with bunch of over the hill players.

I see the same pattern repeated here and in the recent England series. I wouldn't have picked Yuvraj and rested Dhoni and given a chance to likes of Manish Pandey to cement his place in the middle order and Pant as a wkt keeper batsman. Worst case scenario I would've played Pant as a specialst batsman and Dhoni as a wkt keeper if selctors wanted to ease him in. But absolutely no foresight shown by the selectors and we don't have any replacements coz they would rather play 36 year old has been Yuvraj and on his last legs Dhoni even in useless odi & T20 series at home against England at home. Absolutely no succession plan in place and for that I blame BCCI and the selectors.

Yuvi is totally washed up now.And debacle of that dreadful night in Mirpur is a sad sight. But before that Dhoni or any player(kohli) was nowhere near him in t20is.He had more hitting range than any indian player in t20 format.Ah unfortunately cancer came in the way.

Like I have repeated again and again, if Dhoni is not good enough, fine but then neither are others.

Rohit, Rahane, Yuvi all had horrific WT20.

If they all go, then Dhoni going will be fine.

Pant has to be in the team IMO but it's not necessary for him to replace Dhoni just because he is a keeper. He can play as specialist batsman.

I think its time to write you off on anything involving Dhoni.   You are at Maniac levels of objectivity there.
