I understand your frustration. MSD place in team is beyond doubt. Rohit has been excellent in limited format.

Only other batsman in our lineup is Rahane. He starts cranking up as soon as RRR is about 6 rpo. And offcourse I am not going by IPL form.

if some one like Jadeja / Ashwin was made to open and given a consistent run irrespective of failures I bet they will have a few more impact innings than this guy . Amla for all his criticism has played more impactful innings than Rohit .

he is the best 6 hitter in the team currently....he was top 5 most 6s in the last 2 years iirc.

 

best player of short ball and genuine pace.

 

sure I agree he is not the most consistent but he adds a lot more value in this current team and also don't forget one of the best fielders in the side.

Temporarily, not bad to consider Parthiv Patel. Quickfire 30s with fair consistency. Pant should be the other in consideration. But don't know why management is adamant on making him lower order slogger. Pant and Rahul opening with Gabbar as backup.

Pant + rahul should be seen as a our future opening pair . I would definitely take Parthiv over Rohit

Score of 30 can give the team momentum to put up massive scores , its even more valuable when chasing . Check how India has done when Sehwag scored a quick 30 , off course statistically Viru will not be a top ODI . That was couple of years back and the importance of quick starts is even more now .

He can play those big knocks once set , hes the best player of the short ball and arguably the cleanest hitter once set in the team .  All True .

 

He plays for milestones . He cannot bat anywhere else but opening like all limited players and He would be back to averaging 20 if hes moved down . . He cannot play spin . He cannot play swing .He chokes when chasing and more .. All True aswell .

Swing and spin??? That has been pretty much the biggest problem with Indian team since 2011

How many games has he opened ? Has he been given tenth of the chances Rohit has got .

One of the biggest reasons why MI has been winning consistently cos of Parthivs starts and any one can see hes a batsmen whos shown improvement over the years .

you brought up bounce ? why does that get any weightage in a ODI game then ?

 

I would argue playing spin , not necessarily on dusbowls is still very important aspect of LOIs even on flat pitches . This guy cant read a straight ball .

No. Pant should be keeper. Parthiv temporary opener in place of Rohit then discarded because don't think management would get Pant in quickly or play him in middle order till we find some better slogger.   Pant, Rahul and dhawan being the three top opening options. Fourth option being Parthiv.
