I have my own opinion on BCCI , not sure it would go down to well on here...but it involves a lot a men being marched to prison, a lot of ex players finding a set of balls and a tongue and say what they think and know rather than want to be liked for ever more

Now that Joe Root that thrown down the gauntlet by scoring 133* on one leg virtually , how will Virat " The Ego" Kohli respond?

Joe Root.  The new Alistair Cook.  Or the new Nasser Hussain.   Slightly better Michael Vaughn.  Won't be doing much in white ball cricket.   Hides behind and is carried by the better LOI batsmen in the team.   Wouldn't Johnny Bairstow be justified in arguing that he would be equally good if not better than "Rooty" in ODIs?   Pretty soon will go back to scoring pretty 50s and 60s in test cricket and even those will start to fade once the captaincy pressures get to him.

Afraid i cant predict the future like you, i deal in facts which for this post is Joe Root has scored one century in 2017 CT...

I would think Johnny Bairstow has a goodcase against a few guys, i would think Roy is favourite to go with Buttler opening as Roy isa one innings score out of quite a few. But wait a minute an Indian IPL payed a lot of money for that crap:)))

Will get back to you on this one when he finishes as the tournaments leading run scorer :police:.

Will try and get back to you again once he has a blistering test summer but I may have forgotten about this thread by then.

Are you disputing my statement that Joe Root is nowhere near the best batsman in the England ODI team?  If you had to pick an all-star ODI batting line-up, he would barely make the reserve squad.    Amla, De Kock, Faf, ABDV, Virat, Guptill, Rohit Sharma, Warner, Smith, Williamson, I mean, I could keep going on but its getting tiresome.

Heck, there's an argument to be made that the likes of Billings, Bairstow are unfairly missing out to accommodate England's test captain in that ODI middle order.   You know, kind of like how Alistair Cook kept on playing ODI cricket even though it was clear it wasn't really his strength.  :aha:

My point is that Joe Root is nowhere near the discussion of cricket's top ODI batsmen.  He's a quality test bat no doubt.  But let's not even put him in the same bracket as the likes of Kohli, Smith, Williamson, or even a Faf.   He's got a lot to runs to score and win games for his team before he can be considered at that level.   And like I said, he's not even the best ODI batsman in his own squad, forget the XI.

I have read my post again...I don't see anyplace in it or any of my replies that I believe Root to be near best of crickets ODIs. I stated a fact that he had scored a ton plus and how would "The Ego" of Virat Kohli respond

Haha, I know or we have our arguments but let's not sink to trolling levels...

There's absolutely no argument at all for Billings or Bairstow to slot in for the most solid batsman in the team who's averaging nearly 50 in ODI cricket and racking up runs for fun across all formats. Yes if there's 10 overs left and a wicket falls it may be more preferable for someone like Buttler to come in, but that's true for the majority of top quality middle order ODI batsmen in the world.

Cook was not suited to modern cricket, Root clearly is and is thriving right now.

Alrite, I may have been a tad harsh on little Rooty:p:  But honestly - If I had to pick the world's best ODI batting lineup - I don't think Root makes it in the starting XI.  And that's not trolling - I think most objective and informed cricket fans would agree with that.   He's a middle order consolidator/accumulator - and the likes of Kohli, Faf, Steve Smith, Williamson - have done a lot more in ODI cricket, and would make the cut ahead of him.

OK.  And I responded to your post with my clear-eyed evaluation of Joe Root the good, but limited ODI batsman.   VK is India's best ODI bat and one of the top ODI batsmen in World Cricket - he would normally be compared to the other team's best ODI bat.  Little Rooty, wispy beard and all,  is not even England's best ODI bat. capisce?:p:   Heck Tamim Iqbal scored a century as well, and tomorrow one of Afghanistan's batsmen might score a 100 against the Windies.  Do you think Virat or his "ego" would need to "respond" to all of these?   I hear that Mark Chapman fella who plays for Hong Kong is quite a good little batsman - maybe Virat should "respond" when he scores a 100 as well.:bebored:

How people can still write Kohli off is a mystery to me. And if the OP is an attempt at a wind up, it's a poor one, and one which will probably come back to bite them.

I'm not sure there's much at all between Smith, Root and Williamson in ODI cricket right now. Don't think I'd personally put Faf in the same tier as them. You also keep going on about Root's conversion rate but he's still got more ODI 100s than all 3 of them in less games.

You may not put Faf in the same tier, but his performances put him there.  And where was Root when England needed him to win matches in the India series?  Reality is that he rides in the slip-stream of that power packed England batting lineup, and is not even that dependable when the hitters collapse on occasion.  Nor is he a batsman who can be counted on to clinically finish chases for his team, like Kohli and Smith have done so often.   So what does he bring to an ODI team? Sure, he's a quality batsman who can anchor the innings and bat big on his day.  But there are others who can do that better than him.   Even in his own team.   But now that he's test captain, he's effectively undroppable from the white ball team.  If England and Rooty are lucky, he won't slump badly.  If he does, the likes of Bairstow, Billings etc will be putting pressure on that middle order spot.   Or suffer in silence.  Because that's the way English cricket works.  Golden boys are always looked after.

There is no such thing as a World XI so your just internet fantasising on that..

Joe Root is Englands  " consolidator/ accumulator" and i am sure they are glad to have him doing that.if you pick Roy, Hales, Morgan then you need a Root a lot more. Balance is everything in a cricket team.

Don't disagree with you on that point.

But like I said, there's players in world cricket who are better at the ODI consolidator/accumulator role than him.

Yes he's the golden boy but he's the golden boy and undroppable for a reason, because he's the best batsman in the team.

Not the best ODI batsman in England, for sure.

And scoring 50s is not enough.  Top players win matches for you.   Look at Kohli's record, time and again, he wins games for India.  Same with Smith for Aus and Faf/AB for SA.   Root's the Shashi Kapoor of his team, not even the Vinod Khanna.  Forget Amitabh Bachchan.   :p:

^ Stats may be good.   But as an opponent, I rate Buttler and Bairstow as better middle order batsmen than him.  These 2 don't get opportunities to score cheap runs that often,  but those are the wickets I'd want more than Root's in a game.

Banter aside - I rate Rooty as a better test batsman than Kohli.  And vice versa in ODIs.

Joe Root is already  the best ever Odi batsman from England and he will end up as one of better odi batsmen of this era.You cannot compare him with Kohli though , Kohli is an ATG odi batsman.

Root: Home average 55, away average 42

Pujara: Home average 62, away average 41

One is compared to Kohli as one of the best batsmen in the world, the other is supposedly a home bully.

Pujara was home track bully before england & aus tour but the way he performed in that series i don't think anyone else still considers him as home track bully anymore.
