He sure is our best ODI bowler hence its strange that he has not played a match till now. The only reason for that could be that he is not match fit yet.

Shami is a bona fide wicket taking bowler. He must come in next game. I would rather him over Pandya.

 

Pandya wont win a game outside the subcontinent with his bits and pieces. Whereas having 5 strong bowlers will help us win the remaining games.

Have to say I am really tempted to being in Shami for either Bhuvi or Pandya .

 

We need wickets upfront and Shami is one of the best in that regard.

Thats untrue, Umesh was dropped last game Ashwin came in, Ashwin could be dropped next game and Shami could come in. Cant drop jadeja as he is our talisman superman fielder, teams dont run when its him near the ball.

I was answering the guy's question regarding why Shami didn't play.  Recall the 1st 2 games where Ash was benched, and Yadav was chosen ahead of Shami.

IIRC Kohli even dropped Murali Vijay and Pujara in tests at a crucial juncture to play Rohit. These are blatantly biased decisions where the stats and experience of the players dropped proves otherwise.

I don't think its quite out of hand just yet.   VK's investment in Umesh has paid serious dividends in test cricket.  Sure, I got royally irritated when he gave the new ball to Yadav ahead of Shami in West Indies.  But eventually Yadav has built up his confidence from all that faith given by the captain, and really turned the corner as a test match bowler.  While being effective in ODI cricket may be beyond his mental abilities, you can't really blame VK too much for trying.   

 

The Rohit-Pujara situation is quite another story though.  I'm not going to even try to defend that.

We are talking about ODIs. Even in tests, if given a good run Shami might outperform Yadav. Not taking anything away from Umesh, he's shaping up to be a really good bowler in tests. However, I would play Umesh ahead of Bhuvi in tests (With his recent increase in pace - if he's consistent he might get better too). If Shami is not fit he should not be in the team. At least it should be informed. Anyhow with BCCI, you can't expect much.

Umesh for Shami was not on skill more on fitness at the start of the tournament though. Bhuvi is obviously better than Umesh now in ODI, which was not very apparent till the England ODI series.

guess you ment woudnt, if you think Bhuv can keep up the pace in tests as he does in LOI's then you will have a shock when he bowls 125 in tests. to hit 135-148 in tests one needs to have fast stock ball the ones that Yadav/Shami/Aaron/Ishant for instance have.

I meant if Bhuvi can keep his pace up consistently, he can be in contention seriously for tests.

Ghanta contention.  Bhuvi is comfortably ahead of Yadav as a test match bowler - unless we are playing on a dead track with zero assistance for pacers.

Forget the thread about wickets and Umesh's historically superior strike-rates over Bhuv, obviously recent LOI's have seen Bhuv bowl better. But its BD next game, Umesh does have an edge on them so he might actually play next game ahead of Ashwin.
