So keeping this in mind and also giving more relevance to Icc ranking, It wd be much better If Top 6 teams battle it out against each other with top 4 reaching semi-final..NO groups . Ipl style qualifier/Eliminater can also be played to reward the top 2 teams. Total matches will be 18 Just 3 more than current format. sandeep, JaFanatic, Adi_91 and 3 others 6

sandeep Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 From a stand-alone tournament perspective, this makes a lot of sense. It would get more deserving teams in the Semi-finals, no doubt. But the ICC is trying to use the Champions trophy as a tool to incentivize teams to put more stock in their rankings, and make the bilateral ODIs more meaningful. So its unlikely to happen.
