You need a tall bowler with pace who can make the best use of south african pitches and also complement the pace of Yadav and the guile of Shami. Who else is the option you suggest for? Its horses for courses

Tall bowler with pace is all good but he is no More Morkel. He averages 55 in SA. All said about his height and pace he is still mediocre. Pace and bounce are indeed vital components of fast bowling in today's era but that doesn't mean we blindly keep on supporting or hyping or defending these bowlers. Ishant has got enough chances before. Now he may do good in one odd test match in SA and book his place for 50 more test matches. Indians are generally gutless when it comes to horses for courses. Heck we even mix up formats. If someone does good in ODI we try him to make test player and vice versa. Is this horses for courses? If Ishant does slightly good in SA due to nature of pitches that would ensure his position for every other tours also. Ravi Shastri and Kohli's talk about horses for courses is just for talking just like talk of playing aggressive cricket. These things look nice in press conferences but implementing it takes some courage.

ishant is not that BAD as all of you have described..having said that i will agree that he is not as good as umesh shami and not even BHUVI of today as bhuvi of today bowls at 140K at his own wish.

But ishant also can maintain Pace above 140K at an average  and in AFRICA since a Bounce bowler is a must, there are high chances that he will be in the eleven.

if i have to choose i would play ankit right arm fast bowler ahead of ISHANT as he is powerful or else the best performing bowler out of the INDIA A bowlers in tests...as it makes sense to pick the best bowler and dump the worst of the 4 pacers out of existing quartet.

if we play ISHANT and he Under performs - i mean picks 1 or 2 wickets in 2 innings then it will be clear that he needs to be dropped.

actually i wud rest shammi and umesh both as the third test hardly has much interest. even rahane or some batsman can be rested and Rohit sharma can be played.

if ishant and bhuvi both are played , it wud be a straight competition between the two, i bet bhuvi will fetch more wickets and win the contest.kuldip and ashwin would actually take the entire 16 wickets...pacers will need to get just 4 wickets ishant and bhuvi can do that. umesh and even shammi can relax after 2 hard working tests.

test bowling is no joke,,playing 2 tests continuously can ensure that they may underperform in the third test.

Because he is still in his "testing" phase even after 70+ Tests. Someday he will show results, maybe after 150 - 160 Tests. Tall and phasshhhht bowlers deserve at least 150 Tests for "testing".

My point is, why has he been chosen for SRi Lankan tour?  It is obvious that the selection committee wants to see him in SA. Whatever you think or I say wouldn't matter.

If he is going to SA, which seems possible since he is in the SL tour, then he better get a game.

You can carry on with your antics as much you like.

Cheers

Bhuvi will be effective in SA like Philander. There, you need accuracy.

people who play the best at a given point in time will play, if Ishant does better than the next Indian bowler and makes it to playing 11 then good for him. Is Aniket any good in SA tour.

That also means people playing at this particular moment should be those who are doing good at the moment. In which case Ishant doesn't deserve a place at this given point in this particular series of Srilanka alone. By same logic Bhuvi is doing good at this given point but he is not to be seen in team.

Everybody has different opinions. And that's fine. But be honest. Most of the posters are in awe of his height and bounce and pace and hence want him in the team for SA hoping beyond hopes that one day Ishant would really be the bowler that you guys want him to be. (Its the same case with many posters for Varun Aron time and again). But its unfair on other players. All this if he is in the squad he should be tried are genuinely excuses and truth is you are thoroughly excited about Ishant bowling. He is wrongly in the squad in the first place and by giving him chances against crappy Srilankan team you are just providing more chance to wrong selection so that he can be selected yet again for another tour (of SA) wrongly.
