sarcastic
I think a mammoth innings in South Africa when chasing under pressure would have allayed all doubts on his ability and his readiness for international cricket to rest. Are you all convinced we need to give him chances in international cricket (perhaps in the places of some middle order batsmen). Brainfade and maniac 1 1 Link to comment

Are you all convinced we need to give him chances in international cricket (perhaps in the places of some middle order batsmen). As a batsman, I think he's more ready than Pantgasming ICF's favorite. A bit too flashy at times, but can really dominate attacks when he gets going. He could be this era's Yuvi. IIRC he hit a run-a-ball 180+ in Ranji against a Yuvi-led Punjab who proceeded to shower compliments on him on twitter. Is he ready? That depends on the batting position. I think he's batting at #3 for India A - that spot is sealed for the next 5 years by a certain Mr. Wrogn. So either he has to open - where his technique and batting tendencies may make things difficult for him - or get in the lower middle order glut to compete with the Pandeys, Jadhavs, Pandya, and the oldies Yuvi, Dhoni, Raina etc. Link to comment
sandeep
Also need to ask the other important question - who's his player rep? If its Bunty, phir to banjo, Acche din coming soon for Iyer! nevada and WC2011INDIA 1 1 Link to comment
Brainfade
Every aspiring international player - no matter how good or consistent - must have that one defining knock at the right time to propel them into the national team. SSI had his today. Under pressure, against a solid SA-A attack, in SA. Doesn't get any better. Not only is it time to bring him into the ODI side, it's time to find him a place in the XI now. Against a depleted SL team, under VK's tutelage, with confidence at all-time high, there's no better opportunity. sarcastic 1 Link to comment
rtmohanlal
Seems to be a really great all round talent.Age too is in his side.So it is the right time to give a national cap and develop him. Link to comment

No one would put pressure on Kohli, the ODI batsman. He averages 54.6 with a SR of 91 from 189 ODIs. Any good batsman can and should put pressure on the current day Yuvraj. express bowling
Iyer scored 200+ in a 3-day match against the touring Australian side. Now he scores this 140* ( 131 ) in a A team tournament final in and against SA. Comes across as a big-match player who can play really big knocks. I will play him in bilateral ODIs ASAP. Sharma will start to face the pressure sooner or later Yuvi - pressure or no pressure doesnt deserve to be in the team Dhawan is one guy who ll always be on the edge Jadhav again is a player who will always be on edge more then dhawan Rahul, pant , pandey , iyer and we are forgetting shankar( who not only looks a solid batsman but gives u overs as well ) all wud be breathing down the neck of many players and rightly so as our ODi team needs a lot of changes Link to comment

I never said Kohli can be replaced. He is an ATG in ODIs in my book. I said in terms of ability, KL Rahul is very good and deserves a place in the side over other contenders like Manish Pandey, R Pant etc. Link to comment
express bowling
Question is, where will the new players come in ? Pandey and Iyer are ideally top 4 batters and may bat at No.5 but not lower. No.4 slot is open but Rahul deserves a chance first in place of Yuvi. He has shown the ability to play top international bowlers and is a very big six hitter, ideal for No.4 slot in ODIs. No.3 slot is taken. Both the ODI openers have done well and average 42+ and 43 +. Rohit's SR, especially at the beginning of the innings, is an issue but don't see him being replaced in the near future. Only chance is one of them being rested as part of rotation policy. Rohit was rested in WI. Will Dhawan be rested in the SL series ? If Dhoni is in the squad, he will bat at No.5 and won't be dropped. At No.6, Jadhav maybe rested in some games.... but only Pant, Vijay Shankar or Krunal Pandya can bat at No.6. Won't be easy for Iyer or Pandey t to play. Iyer has the best chance if Dhawan is rested and he opens. But, then again, Rahane may play. Edited August 8, 2017 by express bowling Link to comment

Realistically, I dont see Dhoni or Yuvraj getting dropped before 2019 WC. But the above lineup means more specialists who cant bowl which can be a problem in ODIs. There is a need to groom another all rounder like Vijay Shankar or Krunal Pandya. express bowling 1 Link to comment

Krunal / Axar 9. Kuldeep / Chahal 10. Shami 11. Bumrah / Bhuvi may lend balance to the team in the long run. Edited August 8, 2017 by express bowling Link to comment
bowl_out
Is Shankar's game more suited for ODI or Test? Do you see him taking Pandya's spot in Tests, and Pandya being an LOI specialist? Link to comment
Texan
Anything to keep Yuvraj or Dhoni out. Should get Pant, Pandey and Iyer regularly in the ODI team. Link to comment
bowl_out
This is how I would like to see the ODI team for the WC. Rohit Dhawan Kohli KLR/Iyer Pandey/Jadhav Pant Pandya Bhuvi Kuldeep Chahal/Umesh (based on pitch) Bumrah Unfortunately, captain aggressive prefers to have flexi-position Rahane and post-expiration date Yuvraj, Dhoni Link to comment
