He can work on his issues in domestic cricket. international cricket isn't a nursery. And the biggest issue a 19 year old keeper has to work on, is strengthening his back. Which doesn't require international cricket. For a newcomer, there is no 'low pressure environment' in international cricket. Even practice LoIs like world-cup warm-ups are make-or-break for noobs .

IIRC, the last teenager to debut as a keeper in international cricket that worked out, was Ian Healy, over 30 years ago.

this thread is about LoIs. Not t20s. In LoIs, so far, Dhoni is a hall of famer and Pant is Sifarishi.

 

 

You cant select Pant against a windies and lankan z side? Of course its low pressure environment. Who gives a crap that the last keeper to debut was 30 years ago? Pant so far in limited time showed that hes a very good keeper. He doesnt make easy stumpings made difficult like Dhoni does to show off.

Nope. What has he done in LoIs to deserve selection ?

Pant has shown he is a very very ordinary keeper and he is a downgrade behind the stumps compared to Dhoni and Saha. Until he shows he can score a mountain of runs in list-A/A-tours or he can show he is a better man behind the stumps than Dhoni/Saha, he has no business being in the team.

 

Stop trying to rush all-rounder teenagers who are not ready and creating Parthiv Patels of the world.

Ordinary keeper? Based on what? I have seen his keeping in the IPL and some domestic matches as well as the t20s he played for India. He's a damn good keeper. The mere fact that you think Saha is a reserve keeper in LOIs means you have been sleepwalking for the past 3 years. Not even the selectors have Saha on their radars.

He is ordinary. I didn't say Saha is reserve keeper for ODIs. I said if Dhoni went down long term, there is a chance they'd go for Saha over sifarishi kids who have done nothing to deserve a spot in the team.

IF dhoni goes, selectors would go to karthik/uthappa/samson before Saha. Saha is not even top 5 in the pecking order. How can you not know this? Pant has a good build. He should have no problems keeping if selected for T20s or Odis.

Having a good build is not the same as having a professionally fit adult body. Guy just stopped growing. And you want him to play internaitonal cricket doing a job that is hardest on the back. As i said, there is a reason hardly any wicketkeeper gets to play internaitonal cricket before they are 21-22 years old.

And the last teenager we tried (Parthiv), we ruined him by early exposure. 

 

Pant has shown he has problems batting in A-tour 50 over matches. until he can dominate that field, he does not belong in international LoIs.

How did you come to this conclusion. So many times I have seen dhoni not dive on the leg side. He knows he is old and can get hurt. His reflexes are nit better than others and he gives a fake impression that he is quick, Others are tryibng much harder.

He did nothing when it mattered in CT. Utter failure.

SL series does not count. My grandmother could have scored a century in that one. Come back with better numbers.

Because Dhoni is a better catcher, better stumper than Pant and he is the world's best wicketkeeper in terms of quickly receiving the ball from the outfield and throwing down the stumps. Pant is an ordinary keeper, who has lot more work to do to strengthen his back for the 5 day game. not be fast-tracked into disaster like Parthiv Patel.

Kota how can you say one inning ?.  Dhoni is averaging at 89.6 in odi this year. With an aggregate of 627 runs so far, it could be a 1000 run year for him. This is his best performance in terms of avg in a cal year. It's the guys swansong and all see it stupid hate in this forum.

Pant is one of the choices. Like I said there are four others. Dhoni is smoke and mirrors to fool gullible people like you. He is slow and has ageing reflexes. Like I said he does not like to dive anymore. Likes to take naps in the field. Next he will ask for a milk bottle.dhoni is done.

 

How do you know he has a weak back? 20 yr old back is lot more flexible than a 40 year old back.
