Consistency as an opener has some value for this Indian ODI team.

 

Because we have a brittle middle-order starting from 4 .... prone to frequent collapses.

 

We need to find a good average + good SR + plus dependable  batter at  4 or 5  if we want a dashing opener.

I prefer having Rahul as our backup ODI opener, but Rahane seems to be doing ok at the moment.

Ironic at a time when most teams are filling their opening batsmen spots with big hitters, we fill it with Rahane (technically correct and eye pleasing timer of the ball )

Can't afford an 80 SR opening batsman in this era.

How has he been gr8.......

U see it as 4 fifties, well 4 chances to to make a big one and failed and thats been a pattern of his career. I dnt mind 50s if u make it like gilly or sehwag but 50 at s/r of 80 in todays time 

 

In the words of Mr. gavaskar- once a batsman crosses 50 not converting it to a 100 is crime. Strangely he himself is in aww of rahane

did excellent in windies and again excellent here . But all haters can say isnje gets 50s all the time needs to go on 

 

point is he has done well and certainly and assett as bacl up opener 

 

much more fluent now and also test form recently much better seems to have solved issues v spin . Worked hard and delivering
